Lucas' POV
It is semi-formal this weekend and I couldn't be more excited. In the past, I guess I imagined taking Riley to school dances, but now I'm more than happy that me and Daniel are taking Verity and Missy (hopefully), even if it is just as friends. Sure, I would like to ask Verity to a dance or something, but I think now it is far too soon to do that. I cannot stop thinking about what Missy told me about her. That she is definitely worth fighting for, but I have to be extra careful, because I'm still very far from gaining her trust. I'm not sure I've gotten anywhere since we became friends, except for maybe the fact that she doesn't seem like she expects us to turn our backs to them at any time anymore. I mean, she still looks at me with wariness in her eyes every time, but I don't think it's as bad as it used to be.
I have to admit, we still haven't asked if they plan on going to the dance, but we'll do it today. I sure do hope they won't have anything against it.
After our history class where we talked about 'etiquette' of sorts, Farkle turns to me and starts a conversation. I don't know what to think about that, because the last time he tried talking to me, I quickly ended our conversation for he was trying to convince me to believe that Verity and Missy deliberately hurt someone. I'm not making that mistake again. Ever.
"Hey Lucas, just wanted to let you know that they might still take you back if you come to them now, I get that maybe it's hard to admit it once you realize you've made the wrong decision, your pride and all. But we already talked about it and Riley is willing to take you back, Maya would probably agree too and you know that I would be glad to have you as a friend again, otherwise I wouldn't be talking to you now."
"What? Why would I want to do something like that? I don't regret my decision at all," I look at him confused as to why he thinks any of that is true.
"You know, Riley would be really happy even if you asked her to the semi-formal today, believe me. Don't try to lie to me, it's clear there was something between the two of you, you couldn't have gotten over it so fast."
I still don't get it, does it seem like I still want to be with Riley? Cause I don't. "I don't know where you have it from, but I don't think there could ever be something real between me and Riley. And I'm definitely not considering asking her to the semi-formal. Me and Daniel will probably take the girls and we're looking forward to it a lot."
Farkle seems like he's already tired of this conversation, so am I by the way, so he tries in a different way, "Lucas, I don't think you're a bad person. I really don't. And neither is Daniel. I still believe that the friendship we had was real and that you are good and loyal friends. But you made some wrong choices. Can't you see that? Or have you gone completely blind? They made you break our group apart."
I'm starting to run out of patience, "I'm not the one who broke our group apart. And I'm telling you for the last time, Verity and Missy are good people. They would never do anything to hurt someone else. It's just that neither of you want to see that."
I storm off to find the girls.
Verity's POV
This past week, Missy has been excited because of the semi-formal. She hopes that we will go with Lucas and Daniel. And, I cannot say that I don't understand where she's coming from. We have never attended such an event before, because we've never had a reason to do so, but now we do. I have to admit, I'm starting to look forward to that as well.
"Do you think they'll mention it today?" Missy asks me with excitement laced in her voice, it's clear she cannot wait to hear them talk about semi-formal with us.
They do, Daniel brings it up casually during the lunch break. "You know about the semi-formal this weekend, right? We were thinking that maybe we could all go together, it could be fun. Don't you think?"
