Verity's POV

"I don't want you to say Rileytown anymore," Riley turns to Maya while saying this. That's when I know for sure that my suspicion was right and I start to get really worried, as if I wasn't worried enough already.

"I like Rileytown, I like you and I like to say whatever I want," Maya tries to reason with her.

That's how the conversation takes off fairly quickly, finishing with setting a duel of sorts, probably kind of silly.  It's clear that Riley wants someone to notice that things are not alright anymore. But I tune out most of their conversation, only focusing enough to know what's going on in general.

Right now, I'm trying to think of something, anything, I could do about this and also trying to think of everyone who could potentially be the person who bullies Riley. After contemplating it for a bit, I come to a conclusion that the person is most probably Lindsey Torres. There has to be something I can do about this. But, talking to Riley is not an option for obvious reasons, so that leaves talking to Lindsey as my only option. But why should she listen to me? I need to find a way to see through this, to see the true reason that lies behind all of this.

Next day

During lunch break Maya stops me and Missy in the hallway and starts by accusing us, talking to Missy as if I wasn't there at all, "Listen, I know what you're doing with that shadow of yours. Seriously, you think it was all that hard to figure out? Everyone knows you are mean and you hate Riley. That's why you do all of this, that's why you broke our group apart. But I assure you, I will do anything it takes to protect Riley from you or anyone else. If you attempt to hurt her any more..."

Missy only stands there, listening to her without uttering a single word, only interrupting her when she seems to be finished, trying to reason with her, "But why would either of us..."

But Maya doesn't let her finish, "There's no point in trying to deny it. Just remember, I warned you." Then she leaves.

Missy looks at me, not even shocked by such accusations anymore. We had to learn to deal with things similar to that. She comments on it, though, "Why cannot she at least learn your name before accusing us of something we didn't do?"

I'm not really that bothered by it, it's not the biggest problem right now. I tell Missy what I decided to do, "I need to do something about this, the whole situation is not fair. Riley shouldn't have to go through this, nobody should. I need to speak with Lindsey."

"But what will you say? You don't even know her reason," Missy objects and I know she's right, I have known it all along. I do not know the reason. Not yet.

"I'd like to believe that once I speak with her, at least see her face to face, I might understand what's going on better." Maybe the problem is that I've only been focusing on Riley's side of the problem all along. Maybe it would help to hear Lindsey out, if she has anything to say, before jumping to any conclusions.

"I'm going to find her now," I announce and walk off to do so.

Lucas' POV

After our first lesson Farkle approaches me. I find it unusual, because since me and Daniel decided to be friends with Verity and Missy, he made no attempts to talk to either of us. "Do you know that your so called 'friends' are the ones who are bullying Riley? Missy and that trained monkey who is also a shadow of her. Or have they not told you about it?"

I speak to him calmly, even though I can feel anger boiling up in my chest, "Look, Farkle, I don't have anything against you and I don't consider you a bad person, but you might want to get some facts straight before making any false accusations. Missy and Verity would never do such a thing, they are not that kind of people. You've got it all wrong. And also it makes me angry how you all call Verity different names despite the fact that you don't even know her real one."
