He just stood there...

Only when he heard someone clearing their throat did he snap out of it. He found a little human girl waving at him. He glared at her while she smiled.

"Are you hungry?" she asked.

"What?" he said dumbfounded and he shook his head.

"Are. You. Hungry?" the little girl asked slower, "Aunt Gee wanted me to ask if you were hungry."

"Uh...no." Nathaniel said awkwardly.

"Okay," the little girl said she was about to go into the house when she suddenly turned around, "I forgot! My name is Petunia!"

Nathaniel just nodded in acknowledgment, still to stupefied to move.

"G'night Mr. Nate!" She chirped and went into the house. He heard the little girl chatter some more and a light went out in the strange house.

He clenched his fist as he internally scolded himself for acting so stupidly. He had a job to do, and by god he was going to do it. He knocked he on the roof of the house and angrily crossed his arms.

Girl came out and blankly stared at him, "Did you change your mind?" she asked and put her hands on her hips.

"What are you doing to me?!" Nathaniel finally snapped.

She rolled her eyes, "I'm treating you like a person and not a stone-hearted beast."

"No... you're doing something else to me. How did you know about my daughter? How did you hear my conversation with the King when he said you already ran away?! How?!" He screamed.

Girl was not affected by this, she only sighed. She jumped to a neighboring branch and grabbed a staff with a lantern on the end. "Follow me," she said.

"How do I know of this is not a trap?" Nathaniel challenged.

Girl groaned and pinched the bridge of her nose, "You men are so stupid these days. If I wanted to kill you, or at least hurt you, I would have done it already. Now stop being an idiot and c'mon."

With that she went off into the night, only a tiny dot of light showed her location. She moved quickly and silently. Nathaniel sped after, not liking this at all.

She led him to a pavilion type thing and stopped. The pavilion was giant sized, but it had some human installations. There were chairs and tables for both beings and stairs for the humans to climb.

Girl slid down a railing and sat in a human sized chair. "Sit," she commanded.

Nathaniel cautiously made his was over to a giant sized chair and slowly sat down. So far, nothing had happened. "Now what?" he asked skeptically.

"Now we talk like civilized people instead of you screaming at me and waking the whole house up," she responded and crossed her legs.

He glared at her, "This is a trap, isn't it?"

She shook her head and chuckled, "You really are an idiot. I told you before, if I wanted to harm you I would have done so when I first saw you."

"And when did you first see me?" Nathaniel fired back.

"A week before the Queen died," she responded, "You were at the market by the flower cart. You mentioned that you had a little girl who died. Rose, right?"

Nathaniel glared and then sighed, "Yes, I had a wife and a daughter. Now, how did you hear the conversation with me and the King?"

"I was going to ask him for forgiveness when I heard you two talking. After he ordered you to kill me I ran to the closest human village in order to get home."

He crossed his arms, "Why would you ask for forgiveness?"

"Because it technically was my fault that the Queen died. It also was the King's, but I won't even go there."

"How was it the King's fault?" Nathaniel asked.

Her whole aura darkened and she huffed in frustration, "It's a long story."

"I've got time."
