Nathaniel made sure that no one was following him before trudging through the woods. He didn't know that this job was going to be this damn hard. He ran a hand down his face and sighed. He should have killed her the first time he saw her...
But there was something that was stopping him...
He had never met someone, let alone a human, like her. She was upfront and confident, but Nathaniel could tell she was definitely hiding something.
Maybe it was his intrigue and curiosity that made him hesitant.
Whatever it was, he couldn't let it get in between him and his job. He was a hit man for heaven sakes, he couldn't turn soft now.
He found the tree where they first met and found her on the same branch. She was mending something in her hands.
She stopped what she was doing and turned to look at him.
"You look pale," she stated, "Did you meet Rew?"
"How did you know that?" Nathaniel asked.
She chuckled, "Only Rew could scare someone with your heart like that. She's a good woman, but scary as hell when angered."
Again, this odd emotion ignited in Nathaniel. He pushed it away and glared at her. "You're supposed to be dead."
"I know," she said with a shrug, "And you are supposed to kill me. We've been over this."
Nathaniel took a step towards her, he was going to do it. He wasn't going to let a stupid human make him go soft.
She looked at him expectedly, "I'm ready when you are," she said.
This made him falter, "What?"
"You're going to kill me, yes? Well, I'm ready to be killed."
This odd emotion that blossomed deep in his soul immersed in great waves, causing him to stumble back. "What are you doing to me!" he growled.
She raised her eyebrow, "I'm not doing anything..."
"Yes, you are! Why is it so damn hard to kill you?!"
She shrugged, "I guess I have that effect on people."
"You killed the Queen," he growled, "You are wanted by the King. You will die."
She stood up and glared at him, making him waver, "Now you listen and you listen well. I did not kill anyone. You know that. Deep down you know that I didn't fucking kill anyone. All I want to do is help others, so fuck you for accusing me of doing something like that. I know you were hired to kill me, but you don't have to be an asshole about it! If you really wanted to you would have done it! Go ahead, monster, kill me!"
"Shut up!" Nathaniel roared "You know what you did!"
"I did what I could to save her!" She argued back.
Nathaniel loomed over her. His hand was ready to squeeze the life out of her. He ignored the feeling. He tried to force himself to hate her.
She looked him dead in the eye. "Kill me, see what good that does."
