“God damnit,” I muttered. I searched the crowd for him, but he—of course—had to be fucking short so I couldn’t find him anywhere. Why would he just run off? Why did Joshua have to be such a fucking douche? My nails dug into my palms.
Since I couldn’t find Maxwell, I decided to do the next best thing: find Joshua. Luckily, I knew exactly where he would be. I walked to the living room/dance floor and began searching for him.
“Joshua!” I yelled. I walked over and yanked him away from the brunette he’d been grinding with.
“What the hell, man?!” he exclaimed. The girl looked at me like I was a freak, but I was too pissed to care. “I’m busy!”
“I don’t give a fuck what you are! You know, actually, you’re a Goddamn asshole!” The brunette took a couple steps back, slipping into the crowd.
“What are you talking about?” Joshua exclaimed. His eyes were wide like he didn’t know why I was here. I couldn’t believe this fucking prick was asking me that.
“Maxwell, you dumbass cunt! What is your fucking deal?” Joshua took a step closer to me. I could feel the tension building.
“Hey, watch your mouth.” People started staring. “This is my house, my party. Watch yourself.” He said coolly. And that pissed me off even more.
“I don’t give a damn whose party it is! What I care about is how you fucking treat Maxwell!”
“What, you got a crush on him?” Joshua hissed. My jaw clenched. “Don’t tell me you’re a faggot too,” he laughed. My temper boiled over. I put my hands on his shoulders and shoved him. He fell into a group of girls, causing them to scream. If someone wasn’t watching before, they were now.
“No, prick. I don’t.” I turned around and everyone moved to make an aisle for me, like I was fucking Moses. I stormed through and out the front door. My arm burned to be pierced, my veins screamed for something, anything to rush through them. My mind ached to feel the euphoric rush; my nerves begged to feel the high dance on them.
I settled for a cigarette.
“Smoking is bad for you, you know.” I froze. That voice. I knew that voice. I wanted to turn and run, but my legs wouldn’t move. “Aiden, Aiden, Aiden,” They tsk-ed. “You should know that by now,” His fingers curled around mine and removed the stick. “But then again, I heard you had a little fling with heroin. Bet this doesn’t even compare,” he breathed in my ear. I could feel the scruff of his 5 o’clock shadow on my face. He always had 5 o’clock shadow.
“Go. Away.” I choked out. My body still wouldn’t move.
“Aw, don’t be like that, babe.” My lungs stopped working.
“I’m not your ‘babe’.” I protested. I could feel his breath on my face. He smelled the same. He felt the same. Oh my God.
