Giselle M .
"I can't believe we succeeded in all of our intensive dance classes!" Jazmin squealed. "Like, this is so overwhelming- and why does it seem like I'm the only one happy about this?" She questioned, her tone gradually dropping as she looked in between Satinia and I.

I laughed suddenly. "Jaz, we're dead dog tired. We are happy we completed boot camp." I sarcastically stated. "We are just... drained? Okay?"

She dramatically rolled her eyes. "Aw, man whatever. You guys NEED to be pumped!" She exaggerated.

"We have to do something to celebrate!" She exclaimed, holding on to both Satinia and I shoulders.

"Can we at least sleep first?" Satinia annoyingly asked. I eyed her.
Her mood seemed down ever since we had met up with her in Hawkins Hall.

"What's wrong with you?" Jazmin asked as we all walked inside of my dorm room. We all said our hello's to Zoe as she talked on the phone quietly to someone.

"I don't wanna talk about it." Satinia sighed, making her a pallet on the plush carpet.

Jazmin did the same. "Come on now, it can't be that bad."

Satinia raised an eyebrow and stopped what she was doing. "Oh yea? You think so right? So being harassed by Mrs. Corolla and every second of the day being watched by her daughters passé and shit isn't bad? Constantly giving my all, but Mrs. Vilota still thinks it isn't enough. I'm tired y'all and putting up with they shit isn't making it any better."

By now, Zoe was all ears and so was I and Jazmin.

"Is it because I'm black? Is it because I'm actually good and better than all of them damn girls in there, but no one wants to give me my credit because I'm African-American?!" She ranted, tears falling down her face.

"Having to feel her breathing down my neck and not to mention gaining bad anxiety from watching my dance instructor and Mrs. Corolla stand back in the corner and whisper shit. Not knowing that I constantly see them pointing at me. It's embarrassing and being the only black dancer in that class is hard."

There was a small moment of silence as we all just took everything Satinia was saying in.

"Well fuck her." Zoe spat. "Fuck her and what she thinks. I haven't seen you dance, but I don't have to because I know damn well that you're good. And Mrs. Corolla always gives dancers a hard time, especially if you're a threat towards her daughter Josephine. All I can tell you is to distance yourself and find you at least one girl you know you can trust in your class."

I couldn't do anything, but agree. "Don't let them put you down sis. You're better than that and we're not about to let them down your spirit." I piggy banked, motioning to myself, Zoe and Jazmin.
