It Was Only A Kiss

When we pulled up to the two story party house, there were a mass amount of cars lining the street. I could here music blasting from the backyard as we approached the front door. We walked in only to be greeted by a drunken Austin Dickey.

"Hey, fuck you!" Austin said, picking me up while hugging me. "We haven't heard from you in weeks!" Austin slurred, putting me back down.

"I'm so sorry, I know!" I said panicking, "I've been living with.." I turned around to introduce Janie but found that she was no longer by my side.

"You have to come see Jared!" Austin said, grabbing my hand and pulling me to the backyard. I didn't have time to object before we reached the bonfire out back. Jared was drinking a beer, clearly stoned, and had his arm around a girl who looked a bit older than us. He looked up at me, causing me to do a small awkward wave.

"Alex!" He yelled, getting up from his spot on the ground, "How've you been?" He hugged me and leaned on me for balance. I held him tight to keep him from falling.

"I've been okay." I said resting my head on his shoulder as we kept hugging. Before I could say anything, I heard a familiar voice come over the sound system.

"What the fuck is up everyone?" Janie yelled from the makeshift stage. Several shouts and whistles were heard. "We are a band called Devil's Advocate and the first song we're doing is a cover. This is for my roommate, Alex." I stared in disbelief as they started playing 'Ava Adore' by Smashing Pumpkins.

"Holy shit," Austin said looking to the stage, "Jared, didn't she reject you a few weeks ago." I almost dropped Jared out of shock.

"You know her?" I asked, directed to both Jared and Austin. They nodded simultaneously as Jared moved to stand on his own.  As she sang the last few lines of the song, she walked down off the stage and towards me. I started walking away from the guys and towards Janie, still feeling a bit confused.

"In you I feel so pretty," She sang, putting her hand on the side of my face, "in you I taste god.." She glanced from my eyes to my lips. I could feel everyone's eyes on us, including Jared and Austin's. "We must never be apart." And with that last line, she crashed her lips onto mine. Before I knew it, she was already strutting back up to the stage for the next song. I slowly came back to reality and the sounds of everyone's conversations filled my ears.

"What the fuck." Jared said from behind me. I turned around and saw Austin standing next to him with an expression that screamed 'oh shit.'

"I need a fucking drink." I muttered, pushing passed everyone around me. I went inside and started slamming fireball shots. I had about ten minutes of alone time until Jared found me.

"Fireball is the devil." He said irritably.

"Maybe I'm the devil." I said sarcastically. I couldn't help but remember Austin saying Jared got rejected by Janie or the fact he had his arm around a girl when I first arrived. It wasn't my place to be upset, but it still bothered me.

"Maybe you are." He said taking another sip of his beer. I was upset at both him and Janie and also confused. I could feel my anxiety eating at me, causing me to build a temper. I'm sure the alcohol didn't help on top of my emotions. I huffed and took another shot anyways.

"Fuck you." I sighed with a smirk.

"Oh, fuck me?" He said, motioning to himself with his free hand, "Fuck you."

"I don't even know what's going on anymore, I can't talk to you right now." I said, feeling my eyes start to water. I flipped open a pack of menthols and walked passed the stage, out into a field. I sat down crosslegged and lit up a cigarette. After a few puffs my heart rate had gone down. I kept looking forward as I felt someone sit next to me.

"Well, this is a lovely night." Austin said jokingly. I let out a forced laughed and rested my head in my hands. "I know I'm intoxicated, but I also know there's more than one thing pissing you off. Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, looking up at the stars.

"Jared is being a dick, I think my roommate has been trying to fuck me, I basically got kicked out of my house, and I'm stuck working part time at a fucking pie shop..." I sighed as tears slipped from the corners of my eyes. I looked up at the stars waiting for Austin's response.

"Yeah, was not expecting that kind of action tonight." He chuckled slightly.

"I have a feeling this is going to turn into some Scott Pilgrim shit." I laughed quietly, almost to myself.

"What were you saying about you getting kicked out of the house though? What happened?" He responded, turning to look at me. I rambled on, explaining the situation in its entirety to Austin as he nodded here and there to assure me he was listening. After what seemed like hours, Austin and I had established that I could move out of the apartment with Janie and into the house with himself and Jared. Since I would be moving in, he explained that our subscriber counts would raises, more so mine, because everyone would want to keep up with the three of us through all of our videos. It seemed like a great drunken idea at the time.

The next day I woke up to all of my stuff packed up and in the living room. There was a note on the counter from Janie saying that she was sorry if she had ever made me feel uncomfortable and that she wished that 'shit faced guitar dude' and I the best. I crumpled the note and shielded my eyes from the kitchen window's light. I looked at my phone and saw that I had five missed calls from Austin. I pressed the call back button, still feeling half asleep.

     "Good morning." I said groggily.

"Jesus Christ," Austin laughed loudly, "you know it's three in the afternoon right?" He asked shocked.

"Damn.." I said looking at the stove clock. "What all did I do?" I asked, vaguely remember the events of the previous night.

"Well, we had a heart to heart that resulted in you telling Janie you didn't want to be with her and that you would rather fuck Jared, and that you were moving in with us in the morning. You also screamed, 'fuck the algorithm and fuck Dylan' before passing out." He said, sounding embarrassed for me.

    "Perfect..." I facepalmed myself.

"The good new is, you're only twenty minutes away from us. Whenever you get ready we can meet up for lunch or something and then get you settled in." I felt sick just from the though of moving all my stuff again, but also the hangover cravings were calling.

"Okay, let me get dressed." I said hanging up the phone without a second thought. I sluggishly got ready and loaded up my car while sweating profusely. "Wow... what a great start to my day." I said to myself before slamming my head against my car horn.
