the mall
jimin stood there shocked, unable to comprehend what he was just told.
there, standing in front of him, was his ex telling him that he was a father. jimin couldn't believe it.
he let out a nervous chuckle, and glanced around, not wanting to make eye contact to with mina.
"you're joking right?"
"no i'm not, jimin," she replied sternly. "jimin, look at me."
he slowly looked up at her, his hands clasped together shaking.
"this is our daughter, chim."
jimin flinched upon hearing his old nickname. he stared at his daughter, hiding behind her mom's legs.
he slowly approached the pair, taking small steps. he bent down to minji's height.
"i-im so sorry," he said, tears flowing down and his face covered. jimin stood back up, and pulled them into a tight hug.
chaeyoung awkwardly stood next to them, wondering if she should just leave them. she decided to stay and watch the beautiful scene play out.
but the beautiful scene would soon be an ugly one.
"this is why i wanted to meet you here, chim," mina started, pulling out of the hug.
"i'm leaving to japan tomorrow for two weeks. i want you to take care of her while im gone.""did you tell your mom about this?"
mina let out a dry laugh and shook her head. "how should i tell her? that i have a baby that i've been raising on my own? my mom wouldn't want that life for me, especially since it happened to her."
jimin hung his low after her statement, regretting what he had down years ago. "mina, i'm really truly sorry about leaving you. i was young back then and-"
"jimin, it's alright. the past is past, right?" she said, giving him a warm smile. she wanted to believe that jimin changed for the good, and to start over.
he nodded in response.
"but..." he quietly murmured. mina's eyes shot up, having a feeling that he was going to reject her favor.
"i can't take care of her, minari. i-i'm busy with work, i-"
mina scoffed after hearing his excuse. "are you serious jimin?"
she raised her voice, giving a sharp stare to the man in front of her. jimin avoided her stare, and looked down on his feet.
knowing her for years, he knew that when mina would get mad, she would bring up irrelevant things and start bashing you for it. just because she was mad.
"you're busy with work? does that include screwing other girls like last time? i've heard that excuse multiple times before. you can't fool me."
jimin tried to ignore the looks that chaeyoung was giving him on the side, who was listening to everything.
"this is our daughter we're talking about. this is your responsibility, can't you understand that? i've taken care of her for 5 years, but you can't take care of her for just 2 weeks?"
mina sniffled, her lips started to quiver while the minji stood there, oblivious of the situation.
chaeyoung had seen enough, and decided to comfort her.
she stood beside mina and rubbed her back in, trying to calm her. mina leaned on her shoulder, trying to wipe of her tears.
when mina finally calmed down, she stood straight and faced jimin, who had been silently standing there, not moving an inch.
"you were the worst boyfriend, at least try to be an okay father."
still, jimin stood there mute. chaeyoung felt pity for him as she could clearly see he was distressed. she wondered what it would feel like to be in his shoes.
his mouth was ajar, and his eyes seemed lost in thought. jimin was trying to find the right words to say at the moment.
although what mina said was true, he actually is busy with work, this time.
he worked as an assistant chef for his longtime friend, jin. overtime, jin's restaurant, world-wide deliciousness, has become a popular place to eat at.
recently, the local hospital decided to celebrate their yearly anniversary and reserved the restaurant for one day. there would be an expected 100 people to come. jimin played a crucial role in the restaurant's success.
"miss, I could take care of her," chaeyoung offered, breaking the silence. mina shook her head.
"you don't have to. besides, i figured that this would be a chance for them to bond."
chae looked back at jimin before nodding and saying goodbye. before she could even turn around, jimin called for her.
"wait!"
chaeyoung's eyes turned to jimin, wondering what he wanted.
"yes?"jimin glanced to mina, who was puzzled to what he was doing.
"minari, let her take care of minji-"
mina opened her mouth to object, but was cut off by jimin.
"from what i seen, she seemed responsible. she made sure that minji ate, and always made sure she was okay. although i just met her, i think she could do a better job than me."
chaeyoung was shocked by his statement. she tried her best not to blush, as his ex was standing in front her. chae felt like there was still romance between them, and didn't want to be disrespectful.
mina pursed her lips, taking jimins advice seriously.
chaeyoung felt her heartbeat pound faster, and was a bit shocked. she had no reason as to why she was so nervous about mina's decision.
for some reason, she felt a strong desire to care for minji. maybe because she looked so helpless while her parents fought.
then, mina gave chae a warm smile, making her heart immediately slow down and relaxed.
"why don't we grab some drinks and discuss the details?"
all chaeyoung could do was nod happily, as she trailed behind mina and her daughter to the food court.
jimin, who was once again lost in his thoughts, was startled to hear someone talking to him. it was chaeyoung, waving her hand in his face.
"why are you always blankly staring for no reason?"
he scoffed at her question and brushed her hand from his face.
"shut up, chipmunk.".
