Everything's Going to Be Okay

"Hey Maude!" Daniel initially said in his too - energetic voice, but then he registered the look on my face.

"umm...is something wrong?" He asked

I grunted and asked, "I owe you, will you come with me?"

"But...food..." He glanced longingly at the lunch room.

I shook my full brown paper bag in front of him and he started following me like a puppy dog.

I grabbed his arm and we walked down to a secluded hallway where we shrugged our bodies down against the wall.

As soon as our butts hit the ground Daniel began inhaling peppers and blueberries.

My anxiousness got the best of me and almost to quickly I muttered.

"You told them we are dating." I felt my face get hot and the hum of munching ceased as I felt his eyes reach my face.

"it's fine. I'm not mad. Really you saved me and I owe you an entire wheelbarrow full of snicker doodle cookies."

He took a big gulp and began. "You should've been there. Hearing Emily's hypocritical accusations was surreal. Listening to her gossip about you 'whoring' like she hasn't had her fair share, it was disgusting.

I couldn't stand by and I figured that you would find out, and maybe even...talk to me like we used to." His eyes became tender and I had flashbacks to sitting in the small house behind his house where we would share secrets and pretend we were married...

I tried to choke up a word but, nothing.

He picked up his eating right where he left off and we sat in silence for a while until he began talking again.

"it doesn't have to be me. I think you deserve better company than Lux and Emily...and if he gives that to you than so be it. Just don't keep a loser around, okay?"

He looked over to me and for a split second I thought 'I'm going to kiss this boy' but that went out of my head as fast as it went in.

I smiled and answered "okay." Just as the words left my mouth the bell rang and we both got up and hugged goodbye.

"Daniel thank you so much" I said into his shoulder.

I felt a wash of relief over me because the hug wasn't awkward.

He walked down the hallway and my eyes trailed him as i decided that i wasn't going to study hall, but stay here and study.

I pulled out my physics notebook and began to read over notes for the upcoming test.

About 15 minutes later I got a text from my sister. "Hey weiner,  I'm home sick and dad wants me to come over tonight. Will you come with me?"

I smiled, I wanted so badly to tell Emma everything (except Ezra) and I knew she would love to hear it.

Right before I responded I got a text from Ezra, 'I would love it if you came over after school tomorrow. Harry Potter marathon.'

I smiled and responded to Emma, 'Sure thing Em, I have to catch you up on everything!'

and then Ezra,

'Only if I can pick the pizza toppings, none of your gross Hawaiian pepper pizza.'

For the first time in forever it seemed like everything was going to be okay.
