Imagine having your first kiss with Elijah

"So this thing is a ball?" You asked your friends Caroline and Elena who had also been mysteriously invited. "Like the one in Cinderella?"

"It seems like it." Elena replied as you rifled through your wardrobe for something even remotely suitable. "Though I wouldn't wear a glass slipper if I were you."

"Here's what I don't get." Caroline began. "Esther invited Elena because she wants to tell her something, not explicit, but still something, Klaus invited me for another weird reason, but we've spoken, why did Elijah invite you, Y/N? You guys haven't even met."

"Yeah, I know so crazy." You replied with an awkward chuckle.

You and Elijah had actually met multiple times. You hadn't told your friends but before you lived in Mystic Falls, you and the noble brother were good friends. Even though you fancied the pants off of him, you never said.

Elijah was a gentleman beyond explanation, taking you on long walks, fancy dinners, speaking on the phone for hours on end. At every outing, you thought it might finally be the date you craved and each time you were disappointed when Elijah sent you home with no more than a kiss on the cheek. When your parents made you move, you were certain you were never gonna see him again. He said he would make sure you two would reunite but you weren't so sure. You now knew it was naive to think the Elijah would break his word.

"How the hell do you guys even have something to wear to this?" You asked them, panicking as this night was proving to be more stressful than enjoyable. "The fanciest dress I have is from my piano recital when I was eight."

"I bought one." Elena answered. "Just ask your parents to let you get a dress."

"Hey Mum and Dad, could I have like a ton of money, like enough to compete with the forever impeccably dressed Elijah Mikaelson for a ball he invited me to?" You replied sarcastically. "I'll have a better chance convincing them vampires exist."

"I compelled one." Caroline added. "I can get you one if you want."

"No, I'd feel bad." You said with a sigh. "You know what, I don't think I'm gonna go."

"Are you sure?" Elena asked. "It's a ball, Y/N! You might never get the chance again!"

"I know, but I don't have anything to wear." You replied with a shrug. "Besides what does it matter anyway? It's not like Elijah really wanted to invite me anyway."

"Well, if you're sure." Caroline told you disappointedly.

"I am."

You hugged your friends goodbye who went on to enjoy themselves at the ball, whilst you opted to stay at home and watch some reruns on TV.

Hours passed and you regretted not going to the ball, even if you looked like a bona fide tramp in comparison. I mean, the guy had just been awakened from a dagger induced sleep and you left him hanging because of a dress.

You knew these thoughts weren't helpful because at the end of the day, you had made your choice so you had to move on. You got out of bed and went on a walk, the cold breeze hitting you with a perfect precision. You landed at the Mystic Falls and smiled at how beautiful it was, the sound of the rushing water warming your heart.

"So this is where you chose to spend your time instead."

You jumped at Elijah's voice, surprised he had not only made the effort to find you but that he had also succeeded.

"I understand, nature is marvellous, but I like to think I am least worthy of an invitation decline." He went on to say.

"How did you find me?" You asked him.

"With great difficulty." He answered with a chuckle. "But it was worth it. I had set my mind on seeing you tonight, I was determined to do so even."

You threw your arms around his neck and gave him a tight hug, laughing giddily as he squeezed back just as tightly.

"I'm so happy you're back." You told him as you pulled away, a wide grin on your face.

"As am I, even if it's only to see you." He replied. "I've missed you, Y/N."

"I missed you too."

"But not enough to accept my invite?" He questioned, nerves managing to escape from his lips.

"I wanted to." You insisted. "But I didn't have anything to wear to a fancy Mikaelson ball."

"Y/N, you do not seriously think I would have cared about something as silly as a dress?" He asked you with a scoff.

"I didn't want to embarrass you." You replied sheepishly. "And honestly, I wanted to impress you."

"Why?" He queried, his voice completely devoid of any emotion that might give you an insight into his mind.

"I don't know." You began to mumble. "You're an impressive guy, Elijah Mikaelson. You're dapper, you're elegant, well-spoken, charismatic, you're in a league of your own. If I showed up in a top and jeans, I think people would be able to tell the stark difference of class between us. Next to you, I'm invisible."

"I couldn't think of anything less true." He told you.

"Oh yeah?" You replied with a scoff. "Who am I then?"

"The most effervescent person to have ever walked the earth. You are beautiful beyond comparison; your mind is possibly the most precious thing in existence and when you enter a room you become the only person in the room. Throughout the years there have been many Elijah Mikaelson types but I assure you, there is only one you, Y/N."

You were taken off-guard by Elijah's description of you, expecting something as simple as you are nice and pretty but his words couldn't compare to even your wildest of imaginations.

"That was...something else." You murmured, the only words able to come out of your mouth.

"I didn't mean to—"

"No, I liked it." You quickly interjected. "A lot."

The two of you smiled at each other, gazing into his warm brown eyes and feeling the comfort of home inside what you had stared at for what felt like millions of years. You broke away with a laugh, drawing your eyes away from his and onto the ground.

"Jeez, you think after a declaration like that, a girl would at least get a kiss or someth—"

You were cut off by Elijah's lips meeting yours—finally. Not wanting to miss a moment of it, you quickly adapted to the situation, firmly placing your hands on your shoulders as your lips melted into one unit. It was everything you had wanted since the moment you had laid eyes on the illustrious Mikaelson and when he eventually pulled away, you felt a wave of relief.

"Yes, she most definitely should." He quietly murmured in response.

"I guess I have to come to the next ball now, huh?"

The two of you laughed together before you pulled him for another kiss, one of many that followed. And though you had joked, you and Elijah went to many balls together, but even still you were grateful that you had missed the very first, as you may never have received the very first kiss.
