Chapter 24

Piper P.O.V

"I still can't believe it." I say shaking my head.

"It doesn't seem real." Zara replies pulling up at my home.

I leave her car and go inside. The whole school was talking about the rape. A lot of people believe that Megan was raped, others were saying it was consensual and she was pissed because Declan had rejected her and she was making all this up. I knew the guy was a rapist, he even tried to rape me. But I couldn't say anything.

I walk into the house, Zack's bike wasn't there so I assumed he was still with Megan. I wasn't jealous for the first time. He's a good guy for going to see her. It's one of the reasons I'm in love with him.

"Hey hun." My mum hugs me, I hug her back.

"You okay mum?" She nods and smiles.

"I heard about that girl." She says as we both sit down on the couch.

"Who Megan?" I ask.

"Yes, that poor girls mother, I went to see her couple of weeks ago, they are not in a good place." She sighs.

"Wait a couple of weeks? How have you known for that long and not said a word?" I look at her shocked.

"I was at the office when her mum came in." She replies.

"What office?" I reply, my mother was a midwife, she didn't have an office.

"Dave's office Piper, he's the lawyer on the case."

She shakes her head.

"Really?" I ask.

"Well he's second chair on the case they felt a women trying the case would look better, Rebeca is first chair."

I nod.

"Makes sense, jury would be more sympathetic." I add.

I had never ever seen Dave actually in action working, I know he was loaded but he never really showed it off. Especially since he was named partner in such a huge firm, one of the biggest in the state.

"Well I'm going to go up. I have so much work to catch up on." I smile at my mom as I get up.

She nods flicking through the channels.

I go upstairs and update the group in Gary's whats app group.

And a couple of hours later. I hear my mother calling my name for dinner.

I go down to the dining room, and to my surprise Zack was there, with Dave and mum.

"Hey." I walk in.

Zack's head seems like it's somewhere else and he looks like he's lost in thought. He doesn't even acknowledge that I'm there.

I guess he's really upset.

"Piper how you holding up?" Dave asks as I sit down.

"I'm ok..." I get cut of as Zack buts in.

"She's fine it's Megan we should be focused on uncle." Zack says loudly, not even looking up. He never calls Dave uncle.

I quietly look down, someone is being rude.

I just lightly smile at Dave who nods.

Zack's head is definitely not with us.

Suddenly he gets up.

"I've lost my appetite." He walks off.

"Zack!! Zack!!" Dave yells but he doesn't listen, my mum places her hand over Dave's hand to calm down.
