Chapter 11: Encounter With Thresh

>Katniss’s POV<

            I go out hunting while the boys are still sleeping. We definitely need food. I spot some animals, and kill them easily. I retrieve the dead animals, along with my bloody bows, putting them back in my quiver. I string the dead animals up and carry them back to camp. I then reached in to my pack, getting a sip from my water bottle. I take a small sip and start walking back to camp again.

(10 Minutes Later)

            Just as I was about 50 steps away from the boys when I am tackled to the ground. It was the girl from District 6, with a knife up against me. “I loved the way that girl… Rue died. But, talking about dying, I wish I could have killed both of yo-.” Then a figure tackled her. I then look, seeing Thresh pinning her to the wall. The girl screams, “Help me!! Please!!”

            Thresh takes out a rock from his pack and starts beating her in the skull with the rock. She lets out a shrilling scream and then Thresh gives a one more pound to her head. She then falls down to the ground, head pouring with blood. I get up swiftly and Thresh turns to me and says, “Was she the cause of Rue’s death, or was it you?!?!” I stumble backwards and just as about he was going to end my life, a voice boomed, “Stop Thresh!!”

            Thresh turns and I turned my head seeing Nathan. “Why should I?” Thresh threatened. Nathan stiffened up and said back, “Because I was the one who witness Rue’s death.” Thresh went wide-eyed and said, “YOU KILLED HER?!?!” Nathan closed his eyes and said, “No. I was the one who killed the girl who killed Rue, and I was the one who put her in the flower bed.”

            Thresh calmed down, and then said, “This is the only time I’m letting you guys go.” With that he runs off. I look back at Nathan, whose hand is out in front of me. I grab it and he picks me back up on my feet. “What just happened?” A voice said. I look and there is Peeta. “It’s just nothing. It’s just that we had encountered-.” His voice stopped when a voice boomed, “Tributes, this is President Snow here. We have decided that if 2 tributes that survive from the same District they will be named the champions. Also we have a great surprise for you. May the odds forever be in your favor!!”

>Nathan’s POV<

            Then Cato comes up to us, with all our packs. He gives our packs, and we strap everything ready. I got to Cato and gave him an embrace. Then all of a sudden I hear a yell. Oh no is that Thresh? Then I hear barking. Oh dear they got hounds. Then I hear a lot of cracking and loud booms. I smell smoke. Oh now they have falling trees on fire. Then a tree that was on fire lands in between me and Peeta.

            I look back and there are the hounds. Eyes full of hunger. “Run!!” Peeta yells, and Cato and I run as fast as we can to high ground. As Cato and I sprint toward the high rocks. I then have a claw grab on to my leg, making me trip. I turn around as I fall to my back. I hold off the dog as he tries to eat me, and then violently kick him off me. I stumble back up and grab my pistol. I shoot at a couple of them, but they just won’t die. There were about 20 of them so I grabbed my MP-5K, and shot as many as I could. I only killed 7 before I had to reload.

            I was then tackled again. But this time, the dog bit into my shoulder. Where was Cato? I let out a painful scream as its jaw sunk into my shoulder. Then it suddenly loosened its grip and fell off me. I heard the loud echo of bullets, and I looked up, seeing Cato on the top of the large rock heap shooting the dogs with his Daewoo K3 with vertical grip. Soon the dogs are dead and I climb up towards Cato.

(15 Minutes Later)

            The trees had finally stopped collapsing, and Cato and I set off to find shelter. It is getting pretty dark. We reach a water fall, and I feel like it is dead end for us. “Cato. What are you doing?” I say. He disappears into the waterfall. I then hear a suppressed shot and a little groan. Out of the blue, a small bear falls into the water, and floats along the river. “Nathan get in here. I think you’ll be surprised. I slowly walk into the waterfall, and behind it is cave, lowly lit. It has food and a screen implanted into the rock.

            We both check the food if it’s poison, and luckily it wasn’t!! Trust me. I know when things have been tampered with or poisoned, even if it didn’t look like it I would tell somehow. We slowly saver the food and it was making me full. I haven’t eaten like this ever since the day before the games. Then the screen flashes on, and there are the picture of the Tributes who have died today. The girl from District 7, and………………………………………………………………….. oh no……………. Katniss and Peeta!!

            They didn’t make it?!?! I watched the screen as they were surrounded by dogs, and had no other choice but to kill themselves. I stopped eating for a moment and looked at Cato. He looked at me and swallowed. He then said, “I have a plan. I think I can get them back.” I looked at him quite oddly, but I knew that look in his eyes. I just hope it would work.

>Cato’s POV<

            Nathan and I decided to take a rest in the cave we were in. The bite on his shoulder finally healed, and we both snuggled up in the sleeping bag. I gave him a small kiss on the forehead and he gave me small smile, but quickly faded. “What’s wrong boo?” I asked. He looked back at me and said, “What if the plan doesn’t work?” I smiled and said, “We can do this. You just have to  trust me okay?”

            He nods and then closes his eyes. I put an arm around him, and pull him into my chest. Soon we both will be able to go home as winners of the Hunger Games and have all the tributes but Marvel and Glimmer back alive. Then plan to get the tributes back and the families from other Districts won’t have a grudge against us. But I was considering what Nathan said. What If we don’t make it to the Cornucopia in time? What if one of us gets killed? My thoughts all go out my head, and I shut my eye, falling into a deep sleep.
