Sophie's hands shook as she poured the tea into both cups. She could feel the nerves rip through her, the anticipation biting at her. What if this was the big break up? After all, they'd only been together three weeks but oh what a magical three weeks it had been!

Taking a deep breath she picked up the cups decisively and headed to the couch, ready for the bad news.

Mads was quiet for a while. He avoided Sophie's gaze, deep in thought as to how he could begin.

"I'm sorry about how I treated you this morning, I should have told my wife to leave, should have driven you to work myself. The accident was my fault and I can't apologise enough."

Sophie sighed.

"Sure, it's shitty that I need to buy a new car but I'm not hurt, I'm absolutely fine."

"After everything that's happened..." he broke off, deep in thought in preparation for what was going to come out next.

Sophie assumed the worst and sighed, defeated.

"What happened Mads, after I left?"

Mads looked up at Sophie, looked into her eyes with the deepest of regrets.

"Hanne kissed me. She was upset by everything that had happened between us and she was looking for comfort so she kissed me... and I let her." He continued but the rest went through her like white noise.

Quietly but confidently she looked Mads in the eyes and asked him to leave.

"Please, just get out."

Both of them hesitated, both clearly distressed and upset by the situation. Eventually Mads stood up.

"I'm so sorry Sophie. I didn't mean to hurt you."

Refusing to cry in front of him she watched him leave before rushing at the door to make sure it was locked behind him.

Mads heard her crying from the other side of the door and he felt his heart shatter into a thousand pieces. Maybe it was for the best, maybe breaking her heart now would save her from an inevitable heartbreak further down the line.

The tea sat stone cold on the coffee table, untouched and unloved.
