Cuddles

"Because I like you!" Taehyung shouts, and breaks down into tears. The whole room, including Jungkook, goes silent.

---

The whole room is silent. Everyone, excluding Jungkook and Taehyung, have their phones out, filming the situation.

Jungkook is dumbfounded. He gets even more dumbfounded as Taehyung's words register. It's as if the world has stopped, no one daring to move a muscle or speak.

"T-Taehyung," is what breaks the silence, and it is said by Jungkook.

Taehyung takes this opportunity to explain further, "I was jealous, okay, and I guess I got really carried away. You probably don't know, but love really hurts sometimes. And I'm really sorry. I know I've done something terrible. So I'm trying to push my feelings away. You don't have to worry about me anymore." He breathes out, after saying the whole thing in one breath.

T-Taehyung," Jungkook repeats. Taehyung turns and walks away, rubbing his watery eyes with his palms.

Jungkook watches Taehyung leave. He didn't even get a chance to apologise.

Does Taehyung know about the war? Does Taehyung know that we're leaving tomorrow?

A thought pops in Jungkook's head.

If he's in Hanguls and Taehyung's in Hanguks, will they have to... fight each other? Does he have to... kill people? He feels sick at the thought of Taehyung's lifeless, unmoving body covered in blood. True, he absolutely hates Taehyung - but not so much as to kill him.

After lunch, everyone is made to do some hardcore war training.

Okay, we have literally four hours to learn everything

Taehyung is quite a distance from Jungkook, practicing his archery. Yoongi is subtly flirting with Jimin. Everyone seems to be doing something.

Apart from Jungkook. He stands there, his brain cells unable to function. Seonsaengnim taps his shoulder.

"Aren't you doing anything? Why don't you help Taehyung arching?" she sighs as she sees  Taehyung's arrow fly into a tree. She pushes Jungkook in the direction of Taehyung, and when he tries to walk in the opposite direction, glares at him.

He internally groans.

"Taehyung, I have to help you. I don't have a choice," he grabs a bow and arrow and aims it at the target. "Hold it like this." He takes utmost care never to look in Taehyung's eyes.

Taehyung, however, never takes his eyes off Jungkook. He tries to hold it like Jungkook and aims it like he does.

Both of them shoot, but neither of them manage to hit the target. They sigh and try again.

4 Hours Later

"You have trained well and hard today. This is the end of your training. We'll drop you off to a site at 7 o'clock precisely tomorrow morning. Get some sleep - you probably won't get much for the next decade," Seonsaengnim booms when training has finished.

Jungkook and Taehyung walk back next to each other, but not quite together. The night comes creeping on, whimpering and shivering, and wrapped in patches of cloud and rags of mist, similar to a beggar.

A canine creature bays in the distance. Taehyung grabs onto Jungkook's hand and buries himself in Jungkook's shoulder.

Jungkook jerks himself away from Taehyung, a disgusted expression on his face, "Let go, you creep!"

Taehyung whimpers. More hounds howl and Taehyung's face is scrunched up, using every bit of his energy to avoid clinging onto Jungkook's arm.

Jungkook notices Taehyung suffering, and for a second he shows a sign of sympathy - but then it goes back to disgust.

They enter their tent and sleep pooled over them as fast as the dropping of an axe.

Sometime around midnight, Jungkook is woken by sounds. He sits up. He sees Taehyung whimpering and twisting in his sleep.

Among his jumble of incomprehensible squeaks and words, Jungkook can make out one phrase that he sniffles,

"I'm so sorry Jungkook."

All Jungkook wants to do at this moment is cuddle him and reassure him that everything is fine. But he restrains himself with great difficulty.

Maybe I should just pat his back. It wouldn't mean anything. Just to calm him down so I can sleep.

He leans over to Taehyung and gently pats his back. Taehyung's whimpers reduce slightly.

Maybe I should cuddle him. That will surely calm him down completely so that I can sleep. I promise I'm just doing this so I can sleep.

He gently wraps his left arm around Taehyung and breathes in his    Strawberry-shampoo-scented hair. He wraps his leg around him too, so he's clinging on to Taehyung like a koala.

Taehyung stops sniffling completely. After a few minutes, Taehyung starts shifting slightly.

Shit. He's awake.

Jungkook considers rushing back to his sleeping bag, and if Taehyung questions him about it, he'll just say Taehyung was dreaming.

Just before Jungkook does this, Taehyung's hands hold Jungkook's arms and squeezes them gently.

Jungkook smiles against Taehyung's hair. Jungkook, at that moment, forgets everything bad that happened in his life. All his concentration is on how good it feels to cuddle Taehyung.  Both of them fall asleep immediately, Taehyung huddled in Jungkook's arms.
