TVD - S5 E16 - Last Act

• ____________ •

Not even halfway to Whitmore college, Anne got a call from Damon.

"Elena got out, and she's spiralling, nearly killed the newbie witch. I need you to come to Whitmore as fast as you can to help keep her contained. She might get a bit out of control."

"Well," Anne started, pointedly, "I'm actually already on my way there to meet some guy with the cure for you and your girlfriend." She sped up her walking into a run, "Stall her, Damon."

"If I have any talents, that is certainly one of them."

She had to stop a few times to google for directions, but eventually she found the entrance to the Whitemore College grounds. Even though she had a great distance between herself and the voices of Damon and Elena, Anne could smell them from a mile away; the angst, the stress, the guilt, the hysteria.

She used her Vampire speed to zip closer to them, and in an instant she was there, ready to withhold Elena, should she spiral even more. Elena looked past Damon, confusedly. "Who's that?"

Damon turned around for a second, then continued trying to comfort Elena. "That's Anne, she has the cure for us."

"Actually," Anne interrupted, "I don't have it yet, I'm waiting for—"

"Why is Enzo here?"

Anne spun around and her mouth parted, "Enzo?"

Enzo mirror her wide-eyed expression, "You're the 'Anne' Stefan told me to meet? What the bloody hell are you doing here?"

Anne walked towards her old friend, "I'm guessing I'm here for those vials you have there." She gestured towards his hands in his pockets.

Enzo's smile grew, entertained by the sheer coincidence and fortune of meeting his friend again. He reluctantly looked past Anne to the emotional couple behind her. "Sorry to interrupt. I have the antidote. Although," He added smugly, "From the looks of it, you'd both rather be dead."

Damon stomped over and snatched the vials from Enzo, walking back to Elena so they could cure themselves. Anne's eyes pretty much remained glued to Enzo as she said, "We should clear out. Leave these two alone."

"Ah, a lovers quarrel. Let's take our leave and meet Stefan and Caroline."

Anne and Enzo sped out of Whitmore College, then slowed to a walking pace when she put a hand across his chest to stop him. "I'm so sorry, Enzo. All those years ago, while you were locked up in some cage like an animal," Anne winced in disgust and guilt, "I should've been there."

Enzo rolled his eyes and shook his head, "You couldn't've known where I'd be, it's not your fault."

"Damon told me you mentioned me," She said, lowly. "You told him you thought I'd be coming to save you."

Enzo pursed his lips, taking in a deep breathe. "I'd really much rather forget that whole experience. We're both here, right now, free. Let's just restart on that same page, huh?"

Anne looked as though she was about to argue, about to persist with her apology, but she accepted his proposal and they continued walking. Enzo slinked his arm in hers and she grinned.

"I said we'd restart, not that we'd be strangers."

"I missed walking like this with you, through bustling streets of crowds of stupid people."

Enzo laughed, and Anne continued, "I just can't believe you're still alive. I'm so relieved."

He playfully bumped his shoulder into hers, "Me too. We've got a lot to catch up on. And now that Damon has his little pet back, I'm in need of a drinking buddy." He looked at her with a seriously considered expression, "You aren't sober now, are you?"

Anne almost coughed a laugh, "Absolutely not."

"Brilliant," he stared forward, smiling. "Let's deliver the news to Stefan and Caroline, then get bat-shit wasted."

When they got to the train-yard, Caroline met them and updated them on the situation, to which Anne was utterly confused about, which required Caroline trying to explain to her the whole deal with the travellers and their history with her friends—but Anne insisted she would get a headache if she absorbed any more information.

Afterwards, Anne and Enzo walked around the train-yard, catching up briefly with each other, deciding to spend the next few days hanging out. Some half hour later, Enzo said he would get a car ready to go to Atlanta and left Anne to round back to the train-wreck Stefan and Caroline were in. Stefan woke up, flirted with Caroline, and—when he noticed Anne sitting on a nearby barrel, he asked, "How'd everything go? Are Damon and Elena cured?"

"Yeah, they're fine." Anne paused for thought, "Well, maybe not romantically, but physically they're good."

Stefan sighed in relief, "Thank you."

"No worries." Anne kicked herself to her feet and walked towards the two other Vampires. "So, seen as you have no use for me, I'm gonna join Enzo on the road and try to free myself from my trail that Klaus has been tracking."

"How do you know Enzo?" They asked simultaneously.

"Long story, we were friends ages ago, we've reunited and now I'm gonna jump on his tail and go to Atlanta for a couple days. Then I'm heading back to Seattle, and probably finding a new apartment where Klaus doesn't know about."

Enzo appeared, hurrying Caroline up so the three of them could leave. Stefan rejected the idea of Caroline killing his Doppelgänger by herself, insisting he join them, but Enzo dismissed it, explaining how the travellers needed him there.

"Tick tock, gorgeous. Time is of the essence." Enzo flirted.

Anne turned to Stefan, "I grabbed my stuff on the way here, this will probably be the last you'll see of me. So," she shook his hand, "Nice to meet you, have a nice life." Then she jumped down and joined Enzo to wait for Caroline.

Caroline and Stefan exchanged words of mistrust over Enzo, which Anne and Enzo could hear, so Anne called out, "I'll keep him in check!"

Shortly after, Caroline walked down the stairs past Enzo's outstretched hand, and towards the car that she, Enzo, and Anne would be travelling in.

"No, Enzo," Caroline rolled her eyes, "You aren't sitting in the front with me. Get in the back."

"Gahh," He groaned, "Fine. At least I get a view of your gorgeous hair."

Anne opened the passenger's door and got comfortable while Enzo slid into the back, and Caroline started the car.

"A road trip with two hot American girls, when did I get so lucky?"

"You know I'm not American."

Caroline looked at Anne in surprise while she drove, "You're not American?"

"Does this complexion look like something America could generate?" Anne pointed to her face.

Caroline looked perplexed while multitasked driving and examining Anne's face. "Uh, I don't know. I guess I just assumed because of your accent. Where are you from?"

Anne looked out the window, smiling, "A place that no longer exists."
