Enzo smashed a used glass on the floor and sighed, "Ahh. This is fun, not caring."
Anne watched as he tossed a bottle in the air and walked away, letting it fall and smash on the ground. She was sitting at a table to Damon's right, where she had pushed some students off from, picking through some of the fries they had ordered.
Damon replied, "Yep. Emotion-free. Bye-bye humanity."
This earned him a scowl from Elena, so he pulled a face and shrugged in response. He was buying time, Anne calculated. Enzo was now behind the bar, opening up and lifting another bottle in a toast.
"To Maggie James, for whom I feel absolute and blissful detachment."
Damon dawdled in his spot while Enzo drank his problems away. "What do you say we get out of here?" He offered, "Where was it that you wanted to go? Cape town?"
Enzo turned around to correct Damon, "Cape Horn."
Anne felt inclined to stay out of this mess until someone was about to die, hoping the children would argue amongst themselves until their self-awareness kicked in. But they were going nowhere with Damon doing the talking, so she threw a fry at him while Enzo had his back to them.
Damon turned her way, giving her a weird look until she gestured for him to go to the counter. He saw that it was covered in broken glass, and he finally pieced together what she was hinting at.
"Even better," He replied to Enzo's correction, walking to the bar and discreetly handing a shard of glass into his brother's bound hands.
Enzo suddenly spun around and raised his arms like wings, calling out, "All right, everyone's free to go! Show's over!"
In response to the compulsion, every student in the building collected their things and walked out onto the street. As they did, Enzo went on, "Don't worry. I compelled you all to think you spent the day studying like the good, little students you are."
When he saw a blonde waitress or bartender—Anne couldn't tell—Enzo directed to her, "Except you. Stay, I want to test something."
Then, out of nowhere, he grabbed her forcefully and bit her neck. She struggled against him a little too much, Anne observed, which meant he wasn't biting her for blood, he was doing something else.
"No!"
Bonnie Bennet appeared seemingly out of nowhere—another thing Anne hadn't noticed due to her rapidly declining sense of reality. Bonnie ran to the waitress and held her as she fell, while Enzo stood over them, his eyes filled with flat fascination.
"Look at that. I don't even feel obliged to say thank you."
Damon used his Vamp-speed to attack Enzo, but he saw this coming and broke a bottle within reach, stabbing it into Damon's neck.
Anne sighed and picked at the fries. It hadn't reached a completely dangerous point yet; children had to let out their steam on the playground, and lunch wasn't over yet.
Stefan successfully cut the bonds and ran to Enzo, jumping up in the air to gain momentum, and then smashed his fist into Enzo's face, knocking him to the wall. Fortunately for Enzo—and to Anne's surprise—there was a jug of vervain water on the table beside him.
Enzo smashed the job into Stefan's chest, burning his skin and making him stumble backwards onto the ground. With one Witch and two Vampires down, Anne decided it was time to intervene. As she stood up, Enzo took her completely off guard and ran at her with full speed, propelling her over some tables and into the wall. Anne hissed at the sudden leak of blood oozing out of the bite wound, cursing Enzo through a groan, "You asshole."
