(maze runner: group b)

Disclaimer: if you didn't know, group B has different slang and a different sort of maze terrain.
For the different words I'll put a key just in case, and some of the undetermined ones I made up the words :)

Your POV

"What is it, Sonya? What do you see?" I called out. I joined the crowd of girls who were gathered in the Glen*.

Sonya looked up from the crate with furrowed eyebrows and a confused expression. "It's a boy." There was a sudden outburst of voices from the icers*.

"Quiet, you crackheads*!" I yelled and put a hand up. The commotion quickly died down. I looked into the crate to see a blonde boy in only brown trousers and a baggy, white long-sleeved shirt. He seemed to have past out... or died. Either way he was unconscious.

"Marilyn, help Sonya get the blondie* out. Poor stick* must be freezing," I ordered. The rest of you crackheads, get back to work."

Sonya and Marilyn hauled the boy out of the crate and I helped carry him to the lodge. There, we sat the boy by a fire and swaddled him in a thick jacket and a blanket.

"Why do you think they sent us a boy, y/n?" Sonya asked me before exiting the lodge.

"I'm not sure, but I think it's a sign. Whether it's good or bad, we should be prepared," I sighed before dismissing her and Marilyn.

I sat with the boy for at least half an hour until he started to wake up. The blonde boy sat up on his mat. He quickly looked around, scared, until his eyes landed on me sitting a few feet away on a stool.

"Who are you? W-where am I?" W-" I calmly cut him off.

"You ask a lot of questions, blondie," I chuckled. "I'm, y/n. Do you remember anything? Like your name?" I asked. He took a few seconds to think before shaking his head slowly.

"Newt. My name is Newt," he said quietly. He didn't make eye contact. Newt only stared into the flame in front of him. Then, he turned to his left and looked out of the window. He saw the giant ice covered walls and I saw his eyes widened.

"Newt, please don't freak out," I stood up and looked at him.

He stood up too, but in a frightened manner. "Is this some sort of bloody prison?" He asked. I noticed his breaths were slightly faster. I placed a calming hand on his shoulder.

For the next hour I sat, explaining to Newt everything I knew so far.

"So you guys have been here for three years?" He looked at me. He had these deep brown eyes that were kind and it gave me a warm feeling.

I nodded. "You're the first boy here, Newt. I think it might be a sign," I added.

"Er, this was in my pocket when I came up. I don't know what it is but I felt it in my pocket when you were speaking," he handed me a small piece of folded paper.

He's the last one EVER

"What's it mean?" He asked me. I furrowed my eyebrows. It could mean a variety of things. Like he's the last boy we're getting, even though he's the first; he's the last icer to come up; or he's the last person alive outside the maze?

I shivered at the thought. "I need to assemble a summit. Now," I stood up, in a panicked mode.

"A what?" He stood up as well. I grabbed Newt's hand and dragged him out of the lodge. I ran with Newt to each station in the Glen to collect the jailers*.

-

At the summit, all the jailers were gathered and I had brought up the topic of Newt, who sat cowered in the corner of the lodge.

"Today, the makers sent us a boy: Newt. It's unlike anything that's happened in the past 3 years we've been here. Why now? Why him?" I started. There was a low chatter going on in the crowd as people looked at Newt.

"He came out of the crate with a note saying he's the last one ever," I held up the note for the jailers to see. "Now, I don't know what it means, but it may be serious."

"He could be dangerous. He could be a spy for all we know!" Beth stood up. We all looked at the cowering British boy sitting on the stool.

"He may or may not be, Beth, but we should take advantage of this and maybe find a way out," I added.

"I say we keep him in the hut until we know he's safe," Beth sneered. There were some nods of agreement in the crowd.

"Beth, don't jump to conclusions. We thought the same about you but we didn't put you in the hut," Harriet chuckled and Beth only rolled her eyes. There were some scattered giggles in the room.

"I agree with y/n. Newt hasn't given us any reason to not trust him, so until then we should treat him like any other icer. He's part of the family now," Sonya stood up. I gave her a thankful look.

I dismissed the summit and walked over to Newt. "Sorry to put the harsh spotlight on you," I apologized.

"Thanks for defending me, y/n. Why'd you do that?" He asked. It was just us left in the lodge and everyone went to their cabin to sleep.

"I trust you, Newt. Something about you makes me feel like we have a chance," I smiled at him. "It's time for shut eye, though. I'll show you to your cabin."

I brought Newt to a small individual cabin where the jailers slept, since I didn't think he'd like to be sharing the community one with the other girls.

"Thank you for everything you've done so far, y/n," Newt smiled at me from the doorway of his cabin.

"Of course. I'll see you in the morning," gathering up the courage, I kissed Newt on the cheek and quickly headed to my own cabin, not looking back.
