So Many Secrets

After that weekend, in the walls of Saint Pigeonations, Yuuya was speeding through the halls after school. He was making his way quicker than usual for the Infirmary club so he could speak to Hiyoko about what happened last Friday: Valentines Day.

He was making good time, but somebody halted him in his tracks. It was Ryouta, by Yuuya's surprise, and the second-year did not look please.

"Ryouta," Yuuya laughed nervously, thinking about the time he might be wasting "what's going on?"

Ryouta's ruby eyes looked serious, although his overall gaunt was a bit shaky "Senpai, I just wanted to talk to you about something really fast, if you don't mind".

Yuuya nervously looked at the clock. He was hoping to beat Hiyoko to the club, so he wasn't completely sure Ryouta's chat would give him enough time "Alright, shoot. Just please, make it quick, I can't be late to the Infirmary club".

"O-of course!" Ryouta stiffened, still intense in the face "I just wanted to say that... I heard Hiyoko made chocolates for you on Valentines Day".

Yuuya blinked at his underclassman, suddenly realizing what he was getting on about as he saw Ryouta's face grow a bit glummer.

Ryouta, feeling the need to start to cry, instead took a sharp breath in through his nose and looked angry again.

Ryouta shakily put a finger to Yuuya's chest and snarled "She likes you, alright? So," Ryouta paused, his voice falling a little softer "promise me you won't hurt her".

Yuuya understood where Ryouta was coming from. It was obvious that, despite Ryouta and Hiyoko being best friends, Ryouta had feelings for her— he could tell by the hidden sadness behind the boy's eyes. Not to mention it was common knowledge that Yuuya could be a bit of a womanizer— the ultimate source of his infamy. It was a no brainer why Ryouta couldn't trust him, but there was a third reason for Ryouta's worry that he wasn't even aware of yet: Yuuya's profession. Yuuya's line of work as a Secret Agent was dangerous, and certainly not one that could sustain a relationship. Yuuya knew all these facts, but he was blinded by his heart in the end.

Yuuya smiled softly at Ryouta, removing the extended finger from continually jabbing into his pec "Ryouta, you have nothing to worry about. You have my word that I will never harm Hiyoko".

Ryouta loosens slightly, but still can't falter his stare "How can I trust you?"

Yuuya shrugs "I guess you really can't. But, I think maybe you should put more trust in your friend".

Ryouta is taken aback at Yuuya's sudden statement.

"You see," Yuuya continues "she is very strong and willful compared to your average high school girl, so I don't think anything can truly hurt her without her hurting it right back; that's just what I like about her".

Ryouta looked down, feeling slightly defeated, yet relieved "You're right Yuuya, she is a strong girl," Ryouta began to wring his hangs together and glanced up at his upperclassmen "I'm sorry for attacking you like that".

Yuuya waves off his apology "No need, I understand your concerns. Now, let us part ways, is that all right?"

Ryouta nodded, skipping the same way Yuuya was about to walk off to.

Yuuya decides to keep his pace steady from there on, not feeling too concerned about beating Hiyoko to the infirmary anymore.

He actually decides to take a detour, parting into an empty, dimly lit corridor near the storage room to get a drink from the water fountain.

But, after leaning over to get a big sip, Yuuya heard a click to the right side of him and glanced that way. It was Doctor Iwamine exiting the storage room.

"Ah, Sakazaki, what a coincidence, I wanted to speak with you," the Doctor's voice seemed chipper. Rather too happy for Yuuya's tastes— coming from Shuu, at least. It was rarely ever good for anyone else when the Doctor was in high spirits about something.

Yuuya stood up straight, bringing a handkerchief from his back pocket to his lips, wiping any excess water away "Oh yeah?" Yuuya cooly folded the piece of fabric back up and slid it back in its place "About what?"

"Oh, it's just that," Shuu paused, stepping closer to Yuuya's ear so he could hear his voice in his low whisper "the plan is going to be executed tonight".

"The plan-" Yuuya stopped, realizing what 'Plan' Shuu was talking about.

"Yes, that one, Sakazaki," Shuu gave Yuuya a sinister smirk.

Yuuya became on guard, and anger grew in his eyes "If that is so, then you surly remember the promise you made me. That agreement, yes?"

The Doctor waves off Yuuya's concern, giving his patented, little chuckle "Don't have that worry you too much, Sakazaki. As long as you listen to my instruction I won't lay a finger on that brother of yours, or tell him a thing".

Still seeming a bit suspicious, Yuuya slowly nods, but keeps his fierce glare directed away from the Doctor.

"I still have some elements to prep, so come to the Infirmary in thirty minutes; I'll be needing your assistance by then," Shuu then stepped away from Yuuya, not giving him a single glance as he disappeared around the corner.

Yuuya was left shaking in the corridor, fists clenched. With a deep inhale followed by a long exhale, Yuuya became more composed. He was ready to get this over with, and to stop Doctor Iwamine once and for all.
