Hi Freshman Fifteens,
I'm writing to enter my short story, LEAVE THE LIGHT ON, in the Freshman15s Common Room Mentoring Contest. LEAVE THE LIGHT ON is a young adult horror/suspense short story written in second person narrative about hearing noises in your house when there is nothing there. It is 2,100 words.
PITCH/DESCRIPTION: That sound you hear after you turn off your light at night? Maybe it’s just your cat running through the house, chasing some invisible mouse. Or maybe you don’t have a cat. Or any pet. So it’s a rodent, scrabbling through the walls. You go back to bed, thinking maybe the sound was in your head. But maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t.
You have to find out who, or what is in your house, before it's too late.

FIRST PARAGRAPH: It’s late and you start to yawn. The bed invites you in and you pull the blankets high, then reach up to turn off the light. Finally. Tonight will be the night you get enough sleep. It will be a good day tomorrow when you wake up and walk into the office. Your boss will notice and he will buy you a coffee. Just as you close your eyes, though, you hear a sound from the hall. A soft scratching, a low moan. Nothing like you’ve ever heard before.
BIO: My name is Ashley Jellison and I have been writing since I was a child. I'm now sixteen and am working on three of my own novels currently; one is in the revision stage and the other two are in writing. I've dreamed of being a writer for about four years now; I think it's time to start living my dream.
