There wasn't a moment of silence on our way to meet Dally. Not with Two-Bit cracking jokes every minute and telling us about girls. We had quiet a few hours till the movie stared. Our plan was to meet Dally and walk around town, probably causing trouble. "So where are we meeting Dal at?"
"We'll meet him at the Bucks," Johnny said. Two-Bit looked at me and raised an eyebrow. "You know how Darry feels about you going to Buck's."
"I'll be fine. All were doin' is getting Dally."
"You don't have to go in if you don't want to Pone. You and me can wait outside." Johnny said, I shook my head telling him that would be fine. "Who knows, Dally might already be outside waiting for us." I got the feeling Johnny doesn't like Buck's either. Sometimes he will stay the night there with Dally when he doesn't want to stay in the lot or at our house. He says lots of bad things go on there (which is why Darry doesn't want me being around that place).
When we got there, Dally wasn't outside, so we figured he was inside. We could hear people yelling and hollering from inside. Bucks is always loud. You can always hear loud music coming from inside.
Two-Bit was going in to get Dally, but before he could reach the door it flung open, and out came Dallas Winston. Two-Bit jumped back. "Hey, Dal," Two-Bit said, "What's going on in there?"
"Two boys got into a fight over some broad. I would've stayed longer, but I knew I had to meet Pony and Johnny. Are you gonna come along?"
"Yup, I figured I'd keep them two out of trouble."
"Shoot man, they'll be the ones keeping you out of trouble," Dally said, pointing two fingers at Johnny and me and another at Two-Bit.
"What are gonna do now?" Two asked.
"Walk around for a little bit, steal stuff." Dally said.
We walked around town for a few hours. We went to the DX and talked to Soda and Steve, until there boss got mad and told us to leave so they could get back to work. It was funny, right when we left lots of customers came by. And by "customers" I mean girls.
After that, we went to some little stores around town. Johnny and me would talk to the cashier and walk around a little, while Two-Bit and Dally went around finding things they could steal. After awhile the cashier got suspicious and kicked us out. It was to late though, Two-Bit and Dally both had packs of cigarettes in the jackets.
After awhile of walking around town, it started getting dark, so we headed for the Nightly Double. I didn't know what we were going to watch, I figured it'd be one of those beach movies they always show. But when we got there, I realized I was wrong. The movie they where showing was Gone With the Wind.
I've always wanted to read the book, but I can never seem to get my hands on it. Every time I go to the library it's not there. It's a very popular book.
We snuck in under the fence to avoid paying. It doesn't cost much to get in without a car, but Dally likes to do stuff the illegal way.
We went and bought some drinks and popcorn before the movie started. The movie was really interesting. It was about this spoiled girl named Scarlett, and how she and her family survive the civil war and how she finds love.
I was really enjoying the movie and so was Johnny. Not so much Two-Bit and Dally. The movie wasn't even half way over and they were throwing popcorn at each other, and they couldn't sit still. Just like Sodapop, I thought. They finally got up and walked away. They probably went to pick up some girls.
It was getting late, and I was starting to get tired. The movie was over half way finished and Two-Bit and Dally still weren't back
yet. I didn't care that much, it was quite, and Johnny and me could enjoy the movie.Scarlett was on her honeymoon with her third husband, Rhett. She was having a nightmare. She was screamed a little in her sleep, and Rhett had to shake her awake. She wasn't crying but she was in Rhett's arms telling him about the nightmare.
I thought back to the nightmare that I had last night. I was thinking if I should tell Darry and Soda about my nightmare. They would understand and Johnny would understand too. I could tell any of the gang, they would all understand. Our parents just died of course they would understand. But what if they think I'm weak. They'll think I'm a little kid. A baby.
No.
I'm not telling them.
I'm better off just forgetting it. I'm better off not telling them. If I don't tell, I'll forget it and it will go away.
I felt like Scarlett, scared. That was the only thing I could relate to her about. Sure, she probably didn't think much of the nightmare the next morning. It never mentioned it again so I guess she didn't worry about it. I wish I was like that. I wish I could forget, but I can't.
