I hit my fork against my glass of water - listening to the clinking sound. Mummy still hasn't come home from work so Daddy and I couldn't have dinner yet.
I'm soooooo hungry.
Mummy promised me she would help me with my multiplication homework this afternoon. My stomach rumbled like a hippopotamus about to charge.
"Darling, what did I say about being patient? Mummy should be home soon. She is just really late, that's all," Said my Daddy.
I nodded obediently. I told Daddy that I am a big girl now and that I know how to be patient. This was my chance to prove it.
The phone rang suddenly.
I couldn't be bothered to eavesdrop on Daddy's conversation. I was too hungry. Gnawing on my plate, I look up to see that he has the most devastated look on his face.
What's wrong?
Running up to him, I gave him a big hug.
"It's ok, all adults get taxes," I said
Daddy gave a little laugh. Was it something I said?
"No honey, I don't know how to tell you this but..."
But what?
"But...mummy was taken,"
Taken? I'm so confused.
"Sharna, she was murdered,"
I didn't know what murdered mean, I was only seven.
"Will she come back home?" I asked, my watery turquoise eyes gazing lovingly at my Daddy.
"...no..."
A tear fell down my cheek. Mummy won't be coming home...ever? I didn't care about my stomach anymore. I won't see Mummy anymore.
From the Author: I hoped this prologue made you shed a tear. I sure did 😢. Chapter 1 will fast forward nine years into the future, when Sharna is sixteen years old. Love you guys❤️
