Monday, two days before Liz's birthday, Liz stood at her locker talking with Jackie and Donna about the past weekend at the ski cabin."And then he kissed me." Liz finished.
"Oh." Jackie sighed happily.
"Yes, finally!" Donna cheered. Jackie and Liz looked at Donna strangely. "I'm just so happy for you." Donna covered, not wanting to give away that she'd been counseling Hyde on his feelings for Liz.
"It was so gentle and sweet." Liz went on.
"Aww." Jackie and Donna crooned.
"I know. It was just... lovely." Liz finished with a smile.
"Uh-oh." Jackie said suddenly.
"What?" Donna and Liz said together.
"Uh-oh." Donna said seriously when she saw what Jackie had reacted to.
"What? Guys, what is it?" Liz turned to see what the girls were looking at.
"...Oh." Liz said sadly.
Hyde was leaning against a locker with a blonde girl named Cynthia Winters standing in front of him. Cynthia was dangerously close, and she placed her hands on Hyde's chest and giggled. Cynthia leaned in and pressed a kiss to his cheek, her hand traveling to his pants, giving his crotch a light rub, then she practically skipped off to her next class.
"Oh no." Jackie said shocked.
"You know, it's not that bad. I mean, the bimbo's the one who kissed him, and rubbed him. He just...stood there." Donna tried to comfort Liz.
"Come on, Donna. You can't be that naive." Jackie chided.
"Jackie's right, Donna. I'd be stupid to believe he wasn't enjoying that. I guess what happened in the ski cabin didn't mean anything. God, I knew better. I just thought that time was different. I mean, it felt different. It felt, real. Like there were real feelings there. Ugh." Liz groaned and laid her forehead against the locker.
"Ah, Liz, I'm sorry." Donna relented.
"You know what? Screw him and his stupid glasses and his stupid curls and his stupid face." Liz ranted. "Look, I've got to go to class. See you later." Liz waved at the two girls and left.
"Oh poor Liz." Jackie frowned.
"I know. God, Hyde is stupid. I've been trying to convince him to admit his feelings for Liz. I thought I was making progress; I guess not." Donna shook her head.
"Wait, you've been 'trying to convince him?' You've been cheating on the bet!" Jackie accused.
"There were no rules that stated we couldn't nudge them in the right direction. And don't tell me you haven't been talking to Liz." Donna said pointedly.
"I mean, I haven't been obvious about it. Just a comforting thought here and there that not all hope is lost between them and for her not to give up on her feelings." Jackie defended.
"Mm-hmm." Donna said not fully believing Jackie.

After witnessing the interaction between Hyde and Cynthia, Liz had avoided Hyde. She had barely seen him and hadn't spoken a word to him since then.
If Hyde was hanging out in the basement, Liz would go up to her room. If Hyde walked up to the group at school, Liz would leave. When Liz was forced to be around Hyde, like when Eric would drive them home from school, Liz acted like Hyde wasn't there. Whenever she looked at him, Liz saw him with that Winters girl and it just bothered Liz too much.
