Jack was walking with his sister, Allison, around town to give presents to some of the family friends. The snow was falling down in fat flakes that clung to his lashes. Everything was such a pretty clean white and it made him admire the beauty of winter. They were delivering their last present with a merry smile. "Thank you, Jack." The older woman spoke sweetly as she took the last three boxes. "Tell the rest of your family thank you for me as well."
"Yes, ma'am." He smiled at her. "Tell the girls I said hi."
"I will." She closed the door as Jack started down the stairs. He looked around and shivered as a harsh winter wind blew and tugged his scarf tighter before spotting his sister looking in a store window. Jogging up to the same window, Jack stopped and looked at the lights. "Man, I wish we were kids again. Then we could get away with jumping up and down excitedly seeing toys."
"You mean so YOU could get away with jumping up and down excitedly seeing toys." Jack scoffed and smiled.
"That's right, your still a kid."
"Jack, I am older than you." He just laughed and watched the toy train go in circles on the display for a few moments. When they went to walk away the door opened and the godfather of the town stepped out. "Hello, godfather." He was tall, cloaked in black with a hint of red showing through his vest. White hair was controlled by a ponytail that sat low on his head. Pure blue eyes watched them with happy anticipation.
"Hello Allison, hello Jack." He greeted them both, jack just smiled and put his hands in his coat pockets. "Why don't you come in? Rose is here and she has made some sugar cookies."
"We really should be-" Jack started but he was interrupted when Rose popped her head out. Dirty blonde hair in a bun, glasses perked against her nose, pretty red dress that brought out the pink in her cheeks from the heat of the kitchen.
"Don't worry Jack, I made cake too." Jack looked at Allison and she chuckled.
"Jack and I can spare a few minutes, I'm sure Mum and Papa won't mind." The two in the doorway moved to the side so the brother and sister could enter.
"I'll get some cake for Jack and some cookies for Allison. Do you want anything godfather?"
"No thank you, Rose. I will eat later tonight at the party."
"Your coming?" Jack asked as he started to look at all the toys.
"Of course. I wouldn't miss it for the world, Jack. Allison, would you like to walk with him?" She shook her head and sat down at a table. Rose went into the kitchen finally to get the goodies she had offered. Godfather watched as the Irishman observed at all the dolls and toy soldiers closely. "Seeing anything you like?" Jack laughed lightly at the question.
"I'm 28 years old. I don't- wow." He saw something behind Godfather and it caused the man to turn around. On the counter was a wooden nutcracker. He had doll-like features to it, which made it seem almost lifelike. His almond-shaped eyes were made of glass, he had a light-ish tan skin tone that was painted on and a black shadow of a beard. His hair was black and, sadly, made of wood also. He had on a red jacket with golden shoulder pads that had tassels hanging off the end, golden cuffs on the end of his sleeves, a thick black belt, white pants, and black boots. All the clothes were real doll clothes, probably made by hand.
"Do you like him?"
"He is... amazing," Jack told him and Allison laughed. "What are you laughing at?"
"Careful, you might fall in love with that doll." His sister teased.
"He's a nutcracker, show some respect." Jack grumbled as he traced the lines in his hair.
"He isn't just a nutcracker, you know. He is a prince, cursed to be a nutcracker until someone learns to love him as is and give him a kiss to prove it."
"Godfather, that is a story for children." Allison told him just as Rose came out with cake and cookies.
"Here you go! Oh, Jack found the nutcracker!"
"Yes, he did." Jack wasn't listening and his mouth fell open when he saw a twinkle in one of the eyes, but tried to brush it off as trick of the light. "Hey, Jack. Do you want this cake or not?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah!" He was careful about setting down the nutcracker, not wanting him to topple over and break. Then he sat at the table and took off his scarf, placing it on the back of the maple wood chair. "What do you have for me rose?"
"It is a golden cake with chocolate frosting and crumpled up candy canes. Sorry, it's not fancier."
"It's fine. All cake is good cake!" Jack replied with a smile before picking up his fork and practically making love to his cake slice when it was put in front of him.
"Oh god, It's disgusting!" Allison said as she watched him.
"Screw you! It's beautiful!" He mumbled through his mouthful of cake. Rose just laughed before going into the kitchen again. "Is Rose coming godfather?"
"She is. She will be helping me with the G-I-F-T-S." Allison rolled her eyes a bit as she nibbled on her magenta sugar cookie. "I spell it out because it seems that kids come whenever I don't." He cackled a bit with a smile before turning to the nutcracker. "Do you really like this nutcracker Jack?"
"Yes, absolutely. He is beautiful. You and Rose did absolutely amazing on him." Godfather smiled as he looked at the nutcracker. "I wish I had the money to pay you for him, but sadly I already spent all my money for the week on gifts."
"That is such a shame indeed." He said matter-of-factly as he smiled down at the nutcracker. Jack bit his lip a bit before asking
"Can you tell me more about him?"
"Jack, don't be a child."
"Oh leave him be Allison. If he wants to hear, let him hear." Rose said, having perfect timing as usual. "I want to hear it too." Godfather chuckled a bit as Rose pulled up a chair and he turned around, holding the doll.
"Alright, I will tell you the story of The Nutcracker Prince."
AN: That is a real movie and I absolutely love it, but I will not be copying it for this story. I tried guys... Don't be too harsh please.
