Jamie's POV
Today is mine and Leland's first day back at work after vacation. We haven't told anyone, but Leland's kids, that we are engaged. We hope to tell everyone before things get chaotic and we have to go on a bounty. "You ready to get back to reality?" I ask Leland as we pull up to the office. "Yeah, I was starting to get restless. Are you ready for the girls to freak out when we tell them we are engaged?" He asks, and I laugh and roll my eyes. "They aren't gonna make me go dress shopping and start planning the wedding today are they?" "Knowing Beth, it wouldn't surprise me a bit." Leland says with a laugh. He comes around and helps me out of his truck and we walk into the office.

We've been at work for about an hour and we are all fixing to sit and discuss the jump for the day. Once everyone is sitting down, I look up at Leland and he nods. We both stand up and Duane and Beth give us a confused look. "Before things get too serious and too busy, Leland and I just wanted to tell you that we are getting married." I say with a smile as I look up at Leland. The room is engulfed in high pitch screams and holler. Leland and I are both attached with hugs and congratulations. It doesn't take long for Duane to make us focus on work.

Leland's POV
I can't keep the smile off my face all day. After telling everyone, it just feels more real. I know that I sound like a girl, but I can't help it. We are fixing to pull up to our first address of the day and it's time to put our game faces on. When the cars stop, I see Jamie hop out of the car behind me, and I see her take off for the back of the house. Dad and I take the front and we knock on the door  waiting for an answer. I hear Jamie's voice on the radio saying that he's coming out the window. Dad and I start running for the back, when I hear the one thing that shakes me to my core. "He's got a gun!"

I stop off to the side, and I'm watching this guy point a gun at my fiancé and I panic. "I gotta get him to put that gun down. I'm going in the house." I tell my dad. Before he has a chance to stop me, I take off for the front door. "Leland don't. The cops are on their way." Beth says, running up to me. "A lot can happen before they get here. I have to try." I tell her desperately. "You have a can of mace and he has a gun. Who do you think is going to win?"

Jamie's POV
I'm standing in the backyard with Duane Lee and Lyssa, and we are looking up on the roof at a guy who has a gun pointed at us. I'm so scared, but I'm trying my best not to show it. After what feels like forever, I finally see a cop coming out the window. Once the gun is out of the guy's hands, Lyssa and I, take off running. Lyssa runs to Duane and I'm searching for Leland. "Baby, baby, I'm over here." He says running to me. I jump into his arms and I instantly start crying. "I got you. You're ok." "Please just take me home."
