"Detention," our teacher says. "After school, no excuses."
We both get up and walk back into class. So many people are staring at us.
I feel so guilty.
The bell rings in a few minutes. Next class is math. I walk out, and the girl who was on her phone in the hallway rushes to get next to me.
"I never told my name, did I?" she says.
I shake my head.
"My name is Destiny," she says. I'm so happy to hear her name.
As we walk, I take out my writing board and begin to write on it.
"My name is Daisy," I write.
"That's a nice name," Destiny says.
I smile to say "thank you".
She smiles back. She understands.
"I wish," I write. "that someone made an invention where I could think a sentence and the thing would say it out loud."
"That'd be cool," she says. "But it would be a computer talking, not you. I want to hear your real voice, Daisy."
"Like I said, there's a cure. But it's too hard to find."
"Like I said, I probably know the cure."
"What is it?!"
"Like I said, I can't tell you here. After school."
"We can't after school. We have detention."
"Oh, right. Then come to my house after detention. Will your parents let you?"
"Probably."
"Great. We can have a sleepover."
"On a school night?"
"Why not? Do you want to?"
"Ummm..."
