Time moved quickly as the teams advanced through the game. The Caribous were winning with a 42-38 at the third quarter.
Jake sat down next to Andrew on the bench after being substituted in the game. He wiped the sweat off his face and looked around for his water bottle.
"I will be so satisfied if we win," Andrew said.
"Yeah, I'm sure you'll be more satisfied if we win and you impress that girl," Jake said. He took some gulps from his water bottle.
"What?"
Jake laughed. "You know what I'm talking about," he said glancing at his friend from the corner of his eye. He took a few more gulps of water.
"Oh stop," Andrew said.
"Dude, I've seen you give a couple glances at her," Jake said.
"It's just really bothering me who she is," Andrew said defensively. "She just looks so familiar and this is a small town."
Jake laughed a little. "I think you're just intrigued."
Andrew shook his head.
Jake chewed on some ice and watched someone on their team take a foul shot. He knew Andrew was hooked on her.
"Dude, seriously. I'm not interested," Andrew protested, as if he was reading Jake's mind.
"Alright," Jake said. He laughed a little under his breath.
"Hey Schembri," Coach Williams said to Andrew. "Get in."
"Go impress da ladies," Jake teased.
Andrew shook his head and playfully punched Jake in the shoulder as he walked over to the officials table.
Up in the stands, Rebecca started pointing out guys that were attractive and rated them on a scale of one to five. Sam pretended to listen and just nodded as she watched the game.
Adrienne however stared off into space thinking about Andrew. She started questioning what Andrew was thinking every time he looked at her or if it was a mere coincidence.
"Do you think he knows it's me?" Adrienne asked out loud.
Sam piped up, happy to hear someone other than Rebecca talk. "I doubt it," she said. "He probably just thinks you look familiar."
"Has he been looking at you?" Rebecca asked excitedly.
"I've noticed a few glances," Adrienne said. "That's why I think he's suspicious."
"Yeah, but how's he looking at you?" Sam said. "If he's smiling he's obviously interested."
"I don't know," Adrienne said. "They're just casual glances."
"Well, if he keeps doing it, I think he's interested," Rebecca said. "Which means the plan is working!"
"I wouldn't start celebrating yet," Adrienne said. "I just need to talk to him or something..."
"Yes! You do!" Rebecca said. She watched number 26 on the other team make a shot. "Oh! Now number 26 on the other team... I'd give him a 9 because..."
Rebecca's words faded as Adrienne continued thinking about the possibilities. Was there really a chance that Andrew knew who she was? Or was he as clueless as Sam and Rebecca were painting him to be?
"Play 2," said Michael, the current point guard playing on Carolton's team. He passed the ball around.
"Here, here," Andrew said asking for the ball from Nathan.
