"And the winners tonight, ladies and gentlemen are yourrrrr Carolton Caribous!" said the announcer. "With a final score of 53-46!"
Since the Carolton Caribous hadn't beat Bluffton in 3 years, there was a lot of positive energy in the gym that evening. The crowd was crazy, and the Bears left the court with their heads hung low.
As everyone started to leave, the home team greeted their fans and thanked everyone for coming out.
"Don't try to leave without saying hi," Rebecca said, nudging Adrienne.
"I really don't think it's a good idea right now," Adrienne said. "I'm pretty sure Nate figured it out and told him."
"Adrienne," Sam said. "I'm 99% positive he didn't say anything."
"Look there he is," Rebecca said quietly, pointing to Andrew.
Sam pushed Adrienne into Andrew and ran the other way with Rebecca.
Adrienne bumped into Andrew's arm. "Oh, I'm sorry," she said holding out her arms and looking at his face.
"It's ok," Andrew said nodding it off. As the girl started to walk away, he blinked and turned towards her. "Hey, wait... Do I know you?"
"I don't think so," Adrienne said with a smile.
"I'm Andrew," he said and held out his hand.
"Adrienne," she said, shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you."
"Same," Andrew said. He looked at his hand and started to wipe it on his pants. "I'm sorry, I'm probably really sweaty."
"It's ok," Adrienne said. She laughed a little.
Andrew smiled.
"Nice job today by the way," Adrienne said, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Thanks," Andrew said. "I'm so happy we finally beat them."
"How long has it been?" Adrienne asked, as if she didn't know.
"It's been about 3 years," Andrew said. "I wasn't on the team but I always loved coming to this game."
"Aw, that's cool," Adrienne said.
"Yeah," Andrew said with a little laugh. He shook his head. "So, do you go to school here? I've never seen you before, and this is a small town." He laughed a little.
"No," Adrienne said. "My cousins do though. Nathan was playing tonight."
"Oh really?" Andrew asked with slight confusion. "Nate said he didn't recognize you."
"Oh, so you were talking about me?" Adrienne asked with a little laugh.
"Yeah," Andrew said as he started to blush a little. "But um, actually my friend Jake thought you looked familiar when you walked by earlier and Nate happened to be standing there too."
"Ah ok," Adrienne said, pretending to believe him.
He cleared his throat. "So um, where do you go to school?" he asked.
"Oh I'm from Indiana," Adrienne said. "Just a small town called Clear Creek."
"Oh wow," Andrew said. "That's cool. What year are you?
"I'm a freshman," Adrienne said. "You?"
"Junior," Andrew said.
"Ah, more than halfway there," Adrienne said with a small laugh.
Andrew laughed a little too. "Yeah, thankfully."
A few feet away Nathan noticed his sister talking to Andrew. "Hmm," he thought to himself. He decided to walk over towards them.
