Adrienne sat on the couch as she stared out the window. She was anxiously waiting for Andrew to pull up her driveway for their date this evening.
She looked at her phone for what felt like the thousandth time. It was 5:55.
Then, the front door opened. Nathan grunted and shut it behind him.
"Hey," Adrienne said, not event looking up from her phone.
Nathan walked into the living room. He was startled to see a blonde girl sitting on the couch. "Oh hey," he said. "Waiting for your date?"
"Yup," Adrienne said, clicking off her phone. "My very last date with Andrew."
"You don't know that," Nathan said throwing his bag on the floor and sitting down on the ottoman.
"I do know that," Adrienne said.
Nathan rolled his eyes and started fiddling with his fingers. "Andrew's not too happy with Kayla and I by the way," he said.
"Why?" Adrienne asked.
"Because I suck at keeping quiet," Nathan said.
"What do you mean?" Adrienne asked.
He sighed. "Don't worry, your secret is still safe," he said. "I just told him Adrienne isn't gonna be gone so to speak..."
"Ok," she said. "And?"
He shrugged. "He confronted me," he said. "He asked why Kayla and I keep telling him these things when he doesn't even know what's going on."
"Crap," she said.
Nathan shrugged again. "We didn't get much further into that discussion because the coach walked in. So I guess don't be surprised if he runs right out of the gate on that question."
"Thanks for the warning," she said with a sigh.
Andrew tapped his horn a couple of times outside. Adrienne looked out the window and waved at him.
"Good luck," Nathan said, getting up from his seat and patting her on the back. "Let me know if you need a ride later or something."
"Will do," Adrienne said, standing up to give Nathan a hug.
After the embrace Adrienne walked over to grab her coat and put it on. She picked up her purse near the stairs and walked towards the front door.
"See ya," Nathan said, still standing in the living room.
Adrienne put her hand on the front door handle and twisted it open. "See ya," she said.
She walked outside as sleet began to fall from the sky. The small chunks of ice hit her face as she hustled towards Andrew's car.
"Hey," Andrew said, as he watched Adrienne open the passenger side door and get in.
"Hey," Adrienne said, shutting the door and putting on her seatbelt. "How are you?"
"I'm alright," he said, as he started to back out of the driveway. "How are you?"
"I'm ok," Adrienne said. "This weather is pretty crazy."
"Yeah," Andrew said, putting the car in drive and driving away. "Hopefully the roads won't get too bad."
"Me too," Adrienne said, looking at him. "I'm glad we're still hanging out though."
He glanced back at her and put his eyes back on the road. "Me too," he said quietly.
Adrienne scrunched her face as she looked out the window. She started to feel anxious...
