"Ok, I'm done," Sam said, putting her pencil down on her math notebook. She fell back on Rebecca's bed.
Rebecca smiled and looked at the clock. It was 7:30 now.
"I wonder why we haven't heard from Kayla?" she said.
Sam looked at the watch on her wrist. "Shit, it's been 90 minutes already?"
Rebecca nodded, looking at her phone now. "Should I text her?" she asked. "She was supposed to come over."
"No, she'll text us," Sam said.
A few moments later, the doorbell rang.
Rebecca looked at Sam. "She wouldn't come straight here would she?"
"I don't know, honestly," Sam said, getting up from Rebecca's bed. "Let's find out."
Rebecca stood up and followed Sam out of her bedroom door. The two walked then down the stairs.
Once Sam got to the front door, she looked out the peephole. She smiled to herself. "It's Jake," she whispered.
"What?!" Rebecca whispered loudly.
Sam rolled her eyes and opened the door. Jake stood on the front stoop with one hand in his pocket. The other was holding a bouquet of carnations.
"Hi," he said with a sheepish smile. He looked directly at Rebecca.
Sam stood aside and let Rebecca step in front of her.
"Hi," Rebecca said, blushing. "What are you doing here?"
Jake held out the flowers to her. "I wanted to cheer you up," he said. "I hope you're starting to feel better."
Rebecca accepted the flowers and tried to smell them. "I can't smell too well," she said. "But they look beautiful. Thank you."
Jake nodded. "You're welcome," he said. "I'm glad you like them."
Rebecca nodded and smiled. She then started looking down the street. "My parents are going to be home soon," she said. "If you wanted to stay?"
Jake shook his head. "No, I actually need to get going," he said, looking back at his car.
"Oh, ok," Rebecca said with slight disappointment.
"But..." Jake said. "I also wanted to ask you something."
"Yeah?" Rebecca said. She felt as if her own spirit lifted itself out of her body.
"I was wondering if maybe you and I could go out sometime?" Jake asked her.
"Yes!" Rebecca said with excitement. Then cleared her throat and regained composure. "I mean, sure I'd love that."
Jake laughed. "Ok," he said. "I'll text you later?"
"Sounds good," Rebecca said with an endless smile on her face.
"Ok," Jake said, taking a step back now. "See ya."
"Bye..." Rebecca said just standing there. Sam started shutting the door from her.
Once the door was closed, Rebecca started shrieking with excitement.
"Oh my lord," Sam said, trying to protect her ears.
"Did that really just happen?!" Rebecca screamed.
"Yes, it really did," Sam said, turning on some lights in the kitchen. She started looking for a vase to put the flowers in.
"I have to keep these in my room," she said, following Sam. "My parents would flip."
"With excitement or anger?" Sam asked.
