"Hey man," Jake said as he got out of his car the next morning at school.
"Hey," Andrew said as he locked his car door. The two began their walk towards the school.
"How was your night?" Jake asked. "I'm sorry I passed out ridiculously early."
"My night was fine... I actually hung out with Kayla for a little bit," Andrew said.
"Really?" Jake asked with slight shock in his tone.
"Yeah," Andrew said. "I don't know. She and Nate had a fight about something... I saw her running out of her house as soon as I got home from practice last night."
"Ok?" Jake said, somewhat confused now. "Why did you feel the need to talk to her?"
"She was upset," Andrew said. "I don't know... I felt like reaching out, I guess. I also wanted to ask about what Nate said about Adrienne at practice."
"Even though you could have asked Adrienne yourself?" Jake commented.
"I just wanted some background info before I start throwing shit around," Andrew said.
Jake laughed a little. "Right, because everyone knows you like to throw some shit around."
"You know what I mean," Andrew said with a slight smile.
"Sure," Jake said. "So is Adrienne really leaving?"
"From what I've been told, yes," Andrew said. "I haven't really heard her herself say it though. We're going out later."
Jake patted his friend on the back. "Best of luck to ya, Man."
Andrew scoffed. "Thanks," he said.
"If it doesn't work out, we'll find you another girl," Jake offered.
"You just never stop do you?" Andrew asked.
"Nah," Jake said with a smile.
They walked through the main entrance of the school and started down the hallway now. It was fairly sparse. No one was in a hurry to get to school on a Monday quite like this.
"What about you?" Andrew said.
"What about me?" Jake asked.
"Are you still talking to Rebecca?" Andrew asked.
"Yes," Jake answered.
"Are you gonna ask her out at some point?" Andrew asked.
"That's what this weekend is for, Bro," Jake said. "Gotta see if we connect."
"Oh gotcha," Andrew said with a slight laugh.
"Still having some thoughts about Sam though," Jake said.
"Seriously?" Andrew asked.
"Yeah, I don't know," Jake shrugged. "The mysteriousness makes me more curious."
"Honestly, I think she's pretty straightforward," Andrew said.
"She is... But she isn't," Jake said. "I don't know how to explain it."
"Have you been talking to her?" Andrew asked.
"Yeah, but I'm always the first to initiate the conversation," Jake said. "We'll text for a little bit and I'll see her in the hallway but we don't talk for too long..."
"Gotcha," Andrew said. "And Rebecca talks to you?"
"Oh, we go back and forth all the time," Jake said.
"Hm," Andrew said.
"Alright, Dr. Schembri, that's enough therapy for one day," Jake said as they started to walk up the stairs.
