"One more day until the game!" Rebecca said as she and her friends sat together in their first period class.
"One more day until I barf all over the floor... Again." Kayla said, putting her head down on the table.
Sam patted her friend on the back. "It will be fine," she said. "Rebecca and I will both be there to rush you out and flee to Canada."
"Exactly!" Rebecca said.
Sam shook her head. "I don't understand how you're still excited for the game."
"I like pretending Jake won't care what happens to Kayla and he will still want to date me," Rebecca said.
"Good grief," Sam said. "Get your head out of the clouds."
"I refuse," Rebecca said, flipping through her phone now.
"How am I going to sleep tonight?" Kayla said, bringing her head up now.
"Just think of it as less of a deal than it actually is," Sam said.
"My reputation is ruined! Every upperclassman is going to laugh at me when they hear about what happened."
"Kayla, you'll be old news next week," Sam said. "Besides, I'm sure Nathan and I will yell at every person who even cares the slightest about what you did."
Kayla blew her bangs out of her face and looked up at the clock now. "I wish time would just stop."
Sam shook her head. "Man, you two are pieces of work," she said.

"I wish the clock would move faster!" Jake said, as he and Andrew sat in their first period class together. "I want to annihilate Riverview in that game tomorrow!"
"Dude, we'll be lucky if we all walk out with broken bones," Andrew said. "They're projected to win the whole thing."
"We are the underdogs," Jake said. "Have some faith!"
"Yeah... When I find that, I'll get back to you," Andrew said.
Jake was flipping through his phone now, texting Rebecca.
"Is that phone glued to your hand?" Andrew asked. "That's a serious question."
Jake rolled his eyes and looked at his friend now. "If you're not excited about the game tomorrow, are you at least excited for Saturday?"
"Kind of," Andrew said. "I hope Kayla can come."
Jake shrugged. "If she can't, there is no shame in fifth wheeling."
"Gee thanks," Andrew said, looking up at the whiteboard now. Their teacher had written a bunch of words they needed to know the definitions of for upcoming tests.
"What does 'forelsket' mean?" he asked.
Jake looked up at the board. "I have no clue," he said. He went back to texting on his phone. "I'm actually pretty convinced half of those words aren't even in the book."
Andrew laughed to himself. "That's completely possible."

"Just the guy I was looking for," Sarah said as she walked up to Nathan at his locker.
"Hey," Nathan said, rummaging through the papers and books. He didn't even look at her.
"I talked to your sister yesterday," Sarah said.
"Cool," Nathan said, still not making eye contact.
"She told me her plan for tomorrow," Sarah continued. "I'll be there, obviously."
