The two left on the lie that they were, in fact, going on a trip to see a nearby relative to help them out and get more things for their room and such.

"So, Elonoise Manor is not too far away, and we'll be there in about an hour or so," Kit said, looking at a pop-up holographic map.

*****Time Skip*****

The two arrived at Elonoise Manor soon. The owner was pacing nervously outside the gate. When he saw them, he immediately brightened.

"Good, you're both here," he said quickly. "There are some maids and butlers to take care of the house, but they leave at five. The surly groundskeeper lives on the property, and he lives about 15 minutes away. If you need anything, he should be there to help.I just need you two to guard my things, especially the ring. It's in a glass case in my room, you can't miss it."

The two nodded as the stout man scurried off to the coach with his luggage.

"I don't understand," Kit said once the coach drove off. "If there are people here and we only need to guard the ring, why was it on the S Class board?"

Camel shrugged and walked in through the large golden gates.

"We can do it, that's for sure!"

Kit followed her, and soon they were inside the extravagant mansion.

The servants trundled about lazily, looking dead inside and stone-like.

"Jeez," Kit muttered."Do you think they've ever experienced joy before?"

"Probably not," Camel whispered back.

They both found rooms they could use for the weekend, and then went inside the owner's room.

The room had one large bed with golden sheets and a royal purple tapestry hanging from the posts. Rose drapes were pulled shut, blocking all light from the room. Several serious portraits were hung along the walls, and a piano was tucked into the corner. The glass case holding the ring stood on a golden and marble pedestal.

The ring itself was beautiful. It looked like a wedding ring, it's rose-gold sides lined with shining pearls and garnet gems. The centerpiece was a clear-cut and polished black diamond.

"Holy crap," Kit murmured.

"If that ring was a person, I'd probably fuck it," Camel said.

"Yeah, me too."

The two stared at the ring for a moment longer.

"Wanna get something to eat?"

"Yeah."

They went downstairs to find most of the servants gone, the last one packing up. The sun was going down, painting the sky rosey and purple.

"Where is everybody?" Kit asked the maid.

She raised an eyebrow. "You two peeked at the ring, didn't you?"

"Yes?" Camel said slowly.

"It's cursed to be so beautiful that you could stare at it for hours," The maid explained. "That's not the worst."

"Wait, what do you mean?" Kit asked.

The maid ignored them, grabbed her bag, and left.

"Wait, no!" Camel called after her. "What's the worst part?!"
She didn't answer.

The two went back inside, confused as all hell.

"Good God, we're so boned."
