Next day
I called one of my very good old friends to come over so we can go out and have some brunch. She picked me up in her Mini Cooper and we went to a local diner to eat.
"I feel like I haven't seen you in forever."
"I know. I've just been laying low."
"I can tell. You even changed your name." she chuckles.
"Well technically Marilyn is part of my real name, it's my middle name. I bet you didn't know that."
"True but seems like no one knew that. No one grew up calling you that."
"Yeah I know. Not a big fan of it, but I'm getting use to it."
"Can I still call you Lea? Or Ms. Monroe?" She tried lighting up the mood.
"Lea is fine" I said glaring at her in a non threatening way. She always makes me laugh. "But you know if anyone asks you don't know-"
"I know I know. Is he still looking for you?"
"My neighbor told me there's been a white Range Rover stopping by, but who knows. Could be anyone. I don't know" I said very uncertain and unsure.
"Did you see him in the car?"
"The windows were tinted, I saw some heads inside, couldn't tell who was in it."
"Why don't you go to the cops? File a restraining order."
"You and I both know that a restraining is just a letter stating that legally he can't come certain amount of feet near me. By the time I try to tell the police he's too close to me. I'll probably disappear."
"At least they'll know your killer." She jokingly said. I coldly stared at her while I took a bite of my waffles.
"How is this town anyway? Getting tired of living in a city, sometimes I just wanna get away and be a little.. isolated you know?"
"What about you & Mark?"
"Pfffttt.... what about him?"
"Are you not together no more?"
"Who do you think I'm trying to get away from"
"I see. Well it's not a bad thing to get a fresh start. Besides, I could always use the company, got a spare room too. It can get isolating moving to a town you know nothing of, or anyone for that matter."
"I'll let you know how things go. By the way they're heading, pretty sure I'll be moving here in no time."
"Hopefully." We finished our food and headed out.
"Thanks for the ride & food, it was nice seeing you"
"No problem, I'm just a call away. See ya" She gave me a hug and a kiss and drove off.
I sat on my couch and laid back. I checked my phone but of course it's very empty. I don't even have a picture. I realized how isolated & lonely I feel by myself. I have no family & my friends are all far away. My neighbors are just neighbors, & this town is small. I thought of an idea and did the unthinkable act that people like me who are lonely and want a companion do.
I went to a local animal shelter and decided to look for a four legged friend I can save.
I walked around and was just broken by all these poor helpless animals. They just want a loving home. I read their descriptions and a lot of them are seniors that have been there for some time. A lot of people don't want seniors due to their age and health problems. I came across a cute pair. It was a very old black & white chunky chihuahua and a young blue nose pit bull. The chihuahua seemed kind of fear aggressive and was barking profoundly as I stood in front of them. The pitty was wagging its tail. There names were Zero (chihuahua) & Baloo (pit). Zero is approximately 8 yers old and Baloo is 2. I had dogs growing up, 5 Dobermans so I know how to take care of them. I decided to fill out some paperwork and was able to take them home that same day. I didn't realize I was going to put two dogs in my brand new Mercedes but it's okay. It took awhile to fill out paperwork but that was mostly it. This shelter isn't as strict as rescues where they require home-checks and all that, they just took my word for it and just gave them to me like if they were a slice of pizza, and that made me very sad but unfortunately, it's how it is at most shelters. They're too overcrowded and just give them away to get rid of them, it's not always a good thing though.
I went to a local pet store called Charming Pets. I bought as much things as necessary I needed so I don't have to keep coming back. I drove back home.
The shelter provided leashes but I bought them new ones. They both seemed very anxious with me because I was a stranger to them. They were panting a lot and Zero was shaking. I felt very bad so I tried to get home quickly so they can relax a bit.
I got home and took them inside. I took off Baloo's collar & leash with no issues, but Zero on the other hand, didn't let me get too near him. He was very fear aggressive & would try to bite. I didn't want to push it so I slowly unclipped the leash but left the collar on. I didn't want to startle him. I opened the back door that lead to the backyard and let them explore in & out of the house while I grabbed all their things inside. They were both house broken so it wasn't something I was going to worry about. I set up their little beds and let them do their own thing while I cleaned a bit.
It is about 8:30pm and I hear some loud music next door. Looks like Tara and Jax are hosting a party or something.
I step outside and smell a bunch of tabacco. There's about five bikers smoking in their porch and drinking. They look at me and I look back at them, I step back inside. Zero was asleep and Baloo was on the couch watching tv like a human.
I go and sit with Baloo to cuddle. I've never met such a friendly dog. Baloo and I ended up falling asleep on the couch.
