Ambivalence

A face so strange,
yet so familiar.
A plague so feeble,
yet so dangerous.
A life so unlived,
yet so fulfilling.

A veil so thin,
yet so ungiving.
A feeling so harsh,
yet so touching.
A dose so small,
yet so threatening.

A thought so clear,
yet so ambivalent.

At first it was the stars,
but then I saw the sun.

Then came the moon,
but then I saw the blue sky.

Then came the clouds,
but then I saw lightning.

The aim was clear,
yet the shot unyielding.

The light was shining,
yet the brightness so blinding.

The path was paved,
yet the vines relentless.

The mural was clear,
yet the eyes unseeing.

The thoughts were clear,
yet so ambivalent.
