(written by Elliot Davis two years ago, the day before he asked his best friend to be his girlfriend. This treasured list, of course, is such a national monument that it is a scrunched up piece of paper forgotten about and buried somewhere beneath the avalanche of paper on Elliot Davis's desk)
I've taken to writing lists lately, for some reason. There's a sort of jumble in my head and it just seems to make more sense on paper. Not that I ever make lists about anything important, I'm not a superhero like Spiderman.
This lack of superheroism means that I don't really have anything important to write about because stories are never made about boring people because people without problems never get stories. Maybe because that means they're uninteresting. My biggest problem is my math grades and I happen to think I'm pretty damn interesting. But that's not enough. No one will ever write a story about me because I'm painfully average. Nice parents (especially dad, he's awesome) and two irritating brothers who are so irritatingly good at everything. So maybe that's why I make lists. To make my minor problems seem bigger because then, maybe, if somebody finds the lists then they can write a story about me.
Maybe.
So yes, to me, deciding whether or not to date Madeline Pierce is a rather life changing decision, mainly because I don't really have any other important decisions to make any time soon.
I'm gonna start with the positives because Maddie is awesome in every sense if the word and deserves that.
1: Maddie is awesome in every sense of the word
2: She will help me with math without me having to bribe her
3: She actually gets my sense of humour
4: She knows that I talk a lot
5: She knows everything about me
6: I know everything about her
7: She's been my best friend and next door neighbour ever since we were six
8: She's pretty
9: She understands why I hate silence
10: She understands me
11: She can actually put up with me
12: People seem to think that we're destined for each other
13: I can tell that she has a crush on me
14: I'm 15 and by now like ninety percent of people have had their first kiss and I haven't had my first anything
Now for the negatives (sorry Mads, you are beyond awesome but there wouldn't need to be a list if there weren't any cons)
1: She's my best friend and it would be kind of wierd to turn it into a romantic relationship after being best friends for so long
2: I've never had feelings for her in a romantic way. I mean, of course I like her, she's my best friend but do I like like her? I don't know
3: It kind of feels like I'm considering this because I feel like I need some experience in relationships (plus I already kind of know she'll say yes, so she's sort of my best bet)
4: It kind of feels like I'm considering this because everyone expects the two opposite gender best friends to become a couple
It was at this point that the Elliot Davis of two years ago looked at his list and realised that the pros largely outweighed the cons. However, if he had perhaps focused on the content instead of the numbers, he may well have been a lot happier for it.
