~Kiara's POV~

After picking up Sam's friend, Miles, we headed over to the lake party.

"Dude, are you sure we're invited to this party?" Miles questioned as Sam parked the car.

"Of course, Miles. It's a lake. Public property." Sam stated and we got out of the car.

"Oh, my God. Oh, my God, dude, Mikaela's here." Sam freaked and I giggled. "Just don't do anything weird, all right?"

"I'm good, right?" Sam questioned.

"Yeah, you're good." Miles answered.

"Don't worry, Sam." I told him with a small smile.

"Okay." He said and Miles walked up to a tree before beginning to climb it.

'Oh, dear Godric.' I sighed and walked up next to Sam.

"Hey, bro. That car. It's nice. Hey. So, what are you doing here?" A newcomer questioned.

"We're here to climb this tree." Sam answered and I raised an eyebrow.

'Is that the best excuse you can come up with?' I wondered.

"I see that. It looks... It looks fun."

"Yeah."

"You know, I thought I recognized you." The newcomer said. "You tried out for the football team last year, right?"

"Oh, no, no that... No. That wasn't like a real tryout." Sam told him. "I was researching a book I was writing."

"Yeah? What's it about? Sucking at sports?" The newcomer smirked.

'Git.' I scowled.

"No, it's about the link between brain damage and football." Sam answered. "No, it's a good book. Your friends would love it. Ya know. It's got mazes in it, ya know, little coloring areas, sections, pop-up pictures. It's a lot of fun."

By the time Sam had finished talking, I had found myself trying to hide my grin, but it vanished and I my eyes narrowed as the git stepped forward.

"That's funny."

"Okay, okay, you know what? Stop." The girl, Mikaela, said as she placed a hand on the git's chest.

I shook my head and walked in the direction of Sam's car, deciding it would be best to wait for them there.

I heard a 'meow' and glanced down at Midnight who was looking up at me. I smiled and rubbed behind her ear making her purr before I climbed into the backseat and looked at the boys who were walking towards the car. That was the last thing I saw before I closed my eyes and the darkness consumed me.

"Do you think I'm shallow?" Mikaela's question was the first thing I heard as I became conscious of my surroundings.

'What did I miss?' I furrowed my eyebrows before opening my eyes.

"I think you're... No, no, no. I think there's a lot more than meets the eye with you." Sam told her and I raised an eyebrow.

"Okay."

"Yeah."

"Alright, I'll see you at school."

"All right."

Mikaela got out of the car and walked up to her house.

"'More than meets the eye with you'? Really, Sam?" I questioned.

"Jeez Kiara. Yes, I know that was stupid, but I couldn't think of anything else to say." He answered and I shook my head.

We arrived at the place I'm currently staying at by the time it was 10:30.

"See you tomorrow, Sam." I told him before waving and entering the house.

Getting Midnight out of my bag, I walked into the kitchen and made us both something to eat.

"Let's call it a night, okay girl?" I looked down at Midnight who meowed as we walked to my room.

After taking a quick shower, I changed into a Gryffindor tank top and striped plush pajama shorts before crawling into bed with Midnight making herself comfortable by my feet.
