I walk into Calculus, oh the joy of math. I find my way to my usual seat, and find it odd that nothing has really changed. The cool kids are still in the back, mindless banter consuming the air. I see Alice, doing something on her phone while she sits in our usual seats, comfortably in the middle. She smiles when she sees me making my way to the two desks.
I plop down next to her, smiling as she immediately goes into gossip about how Amber Ministrone apparently already cheated on her husband. I nod and smile when appropriate, not meaning to push her to the side.
It's just, everything is continuing. Everything is normal. Is no one still freaking out that they're married, every single student in this high school has been joined together in holy matrimony, and no one is even dipping a finger of concern?
I hear the bell ring, signaling the stream of teens just barely making it into the classroom before Mr. Aloe arrives.
I grab my notebook and pencil from my bag and set them on the desk. Alice keeps quiet, preparing herself.
"Good morning Class." Mr. Aloe greets, turning around to write something on the board.
He turns around, looking down at a piece of paper.
"We need to go over a few things before class. One being the marriage aspect, the board decided that no new rules will be instated in schools. PDA, still not allowed. You're not gonna have to sit with your spouse at lunch or anything. School will not change. The second being, you have a ginormous test on Friday. It's Wednesday, so get studying. Not going to lie to you, it's difficult and there's a study guide on my desk if you'd like one. Today and tomorrow's class will be just that, study periods. So please, ask any questions and work with your peers. Begin."
Being the first one in the class to do so, I walk to them front of the room and grab a study guide, sighing in frustration when I see the work. I'm gonna need to brush up on well, everything.
Math has always been my strong suit. I'm a junior taking calculus. My class is filled with seniors but I'm still number one. I'm proud of that, but it's times like these that I regret skipping my other math courses.
I make my way back to my seat, groaning and handing Alice the copy I got her. She looks at it and dramatically puts her head on her desk.
"We learned this?" She asks, looking down at the study guide.
I just nod, gulping nervously. Apparently this is a difficult test, even I don't know some of this.
We spend the class groaning, and attempting to study. I ask Mr. Aloe a few questions but he answers them all with, "well we went over this...". I hate it when teachers do that.
I hear the final bell ring, and quickly get out of my seat. This is where Alice and I part ways, her to photography and me to Biology.
I have my things for Bio with me, so I quickly leave the classroom and start my path there. I'm too busy shoving things into folders that I accidentally bump into somebody.
"Are you okay?" The voice is familiar and I look up to see Mason looming over me with his talk height.
"Yeah I'm fine, sorry I wasn't looking where I was going. I was just uh-"
He cuts me off. "It's okay. No worries, what class do you have?"
"Uh Biology."
"I'm in Physics right across the hall, I'll walk you." He smiles
"Thank you" I blush, tucking a strand of hair behind me ear.
"So how's living with Logan?" He asks me, curiously.
