The next morning, Anne woke up full of happiness, despite the fact she was grounded. Marilla was really worried with last night's incident, that couldn't let the situation like that.
Anne fixed her braids and decorated them with her classic blue ribbon, which she wore only in special occasions.
"Anne Shirley-Cuthbert! Why would you wear your ribbon in a school day! It will get dirty! Take it off ,this minute I say!" Marilla said as she watched Anne run down the stairs.
"Oh Marilla! I felt like it's a special day today, so I couldn't help it but wear my ribbon!" Anne said as she gave her a warm smile.
"For god's sake, child how can you be happier while you're grounded? You start driving me crazy!" Marilla said frustrated, slightly smiling back at Anne.
Anne placed the plates and forks on the table. She couldn't stop thinking about Gilbert's smile. How handsome he was! He always is, of course, but his laugh was like music to her ears. She couldn't stop picturing him, there in front of her, smiling and looking into her eyes, making her melt.
"Next time, I'll make sure we have no river next to us.." she whispered to herself letting a small chuckle escape from her mouth.
"Ok I'll go tell Matthew to come for breakfast. You, start eating and go to school." Marilla said and kissed Anne on the forhead.
"And after school, come back home, don't forget you're not allowed to go anywhere else than school for a week" she added as she closed the kitchen door behind her.
Anne ate her breakfast as quickly as she could and got up. She wore her coat and hat, she took her books and slate, and she made her way to school.
As she was walking to school ,she didn't pay attention to the beauty that surrounded her, which was really strange as Anne would always stop to pick a flower or study a butterfly's colorful wings.
When she finally reached the school house, she took a deep breath as she smiled to herself. She was sure another great day was infront of her.
When the lunch time break arrived, Anne and the other girls sat in their corner giggling and talking. Josie sat next to Anne, which made the other girls frown in wonder, but they didn't pay attention for a long time.
"Billy's coming!" Tillie whispered to the other girls.
"Hello girls. Can I, um.. May I talk to you, Anne?" he said and tried to smile, while his expression seemed upset.
Anne turned to face the other girls and quickly got up as she nodded to him.
"Am I deaf or did Billy just call Anne with her name?" Ruby asked concerned.
"What can I say? Anne has a special way to make people love her. Even the hardest to get." Diana said, slightly smiling as she took a bite of her apple and looked at Josie.
"Anne I'm sorry to bother you while you are with your friends but I need to talk you." Billy said.
"Yes, of course Billy. What happened?" Anne said concerned searching into his eyes.
"Well I think I shouldn't tell Josie I like her.. I doubt she'll be interested in someone like me" he said, now his eyes meeting hers.
"Nonsense. Billy it will be fine. I'm sure everything will work out. Don't worry, I got this. I'll talk to her today." she said and smiled.
"Ok then, as I said, I trust you" Billy said and smiled back.
Anne went back to sit with the other girls. Diana smiled at her while the other girls looked at her in shock.
