One of the worst things about being a psychopathic murder is that you don’t care about the targets. You just kill them, without any questioning or remorse. I have never felt regret about killing someone, not once in my life… or lack of life. No, I’m not dead, but officially I was never alive. Though I’ve killed enough people, and ruined enough lives, to be known by all, and feared by many.
There is always a first time for everything though. There was a first time for remorse, a first time for questions, and a first time for hesitation. Don’t ask me why it happened, I couldn’t (and also wouldn’t) tell you. This time was different, and I knew it from the very beginning. I didn’t need eyes to see that.
Psychopaths don’t love, we don’t feel emotions, and we don’t appreciate beauty. Maybe I’m not a real psychopath after all… but I am Eyeless Jack, and I have a reputation to keep.
“Alrighty Jack, you ready for another target? I know it’s been a while, you must be starving, poor thing.” He looked at me unblinking, with his typical huge grin. It was always hard to tell what he was thinking, he didn’t show it on his face, but after hundreds of years I’ve figured it out.
“Just tell me who it is Jeff, I don’t need your humor.” I said with my usual stale tone. My mask cut out a lot of the sound, so it was quiet but still audible.
He tilted his head a little bit to the side to show his hurt. “Hey, Jack, give me a heads up when you’re on your period buddy. Her name is ‘Jade’ and somebody wants her dead. Y’know she’s got a pretty name, maybe if it doesn’t work out you two may hit it off!” I can tell he would have winked at me if he had eyelids. His smile seemed to get a little bit bigger somehow, and his teeth glared out at me.
“You’re one rotten son of a gun aren’t you? Go screw your girlfriend or something; I’ve got work to do. Have you got any more amazing advice for me?” I walked around our kitchen table over to my couch, where I had a bag full of my belongings. Jeff walked over with me.
“I may have something for you actually.” He laughed his usual unsettling cackle. “Here, you can have the file and all of our information on her, but I do have some real advice for you. This is your first assignment that is dealing with a teenager. It’s different; they are either more aware, or more eager depending on what kind of person they are. I don’t know Jade personally, but it sounds like a stripper name.” He laughed in my face, and covered his mouth to try and stop it.
“Oh come on, shut up asshole. You don’t have any real advice do you?” I shrugged at him, reaching into my bag. My knife was in here somewhere, and I was going to need it real soon.
“Actually, I do have advice. Don’t let her see you; if she does you will have to get out of there ASAP. They do not hesitate like children, and they don’t try to negotiate like some adults. She will be straight to the cops unless you are swift, and efficient.” He reached into his pocket and whistled at me to get my attention. I looked up to see him pull out my knife. “I took the liberty of sharpening this for you.” He threw it to me and I caught it fast.
“Wow Jeff, someone is feeling awfully charitable today.” I laughed, inspecting the knife. “You didn’t do anything dangerous to it right?” He shook his head ‘no’. “You didn’t shove it up your ass either did you?” He was starting to get mad now, I could tell. But his smile was unwavering nonetheless, not that he had much of a choice.
“You’re hilarious. Leave the jokes to me big brother, you just stick to the silent brooding that you’re known for. Dinner will be ready by the time you get back, Kidney Stew! Your favorite!” I looked up at him expectantly. “Just kidding, it’s McDiabetes. Mmmmmm delicious calories.” He cackled, nodding at me. “See THAT shit is funny! Now go kill yourself some food, before I get bored.”
