I woke up with Lian still fast asleep. I slipped out of the bed and head to the bathroom and took a leak. What she said last night rang into my ear. It bugs me why she said she couldn’t. I want to know why. I washed my face and stood in front of the mirror and stare at my reflection, trying to figure out why.
I snapped out of my thoughts when she knocked on the bathroom door.
“Hey! Hurry!” she hollered
I unlocked the door and went to my room.
That night we had dinner with my Mom and Rick. We ate at one of this fancy Italian restaurant. We all are laughing, talking, and joking all throughout the dinner. We decided to stay for some wine.
“So Lily how is your Grandma Sol?” My Mom asked. Grandma Sol is the one who raised Lian, while her Dad work. Her Mom is an orphan and died giving birth to Lian.
“She’s great, still stubborn.” Lian answered.
“Ha! Good ole Sol. Anyway, any boyfriend?”
“I’m actually engaged.” She said.
I was surprised when she said that because first, I don’t see any ring. Second, she didn’t say anything about it. Third, I don’t see any ring.
“Oh wow! Congrats! Don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t see any ring.” Leave it to my mom to voice out my thoughts.
“Uhmm… I had it cleaned, but I forgot to pick it up before leaving for the trip.”
“I see… May I ask what’s his name?”
“Joseph Kennedy. He’s an artist. Painter.” She answered.
Well that answered why she said she couldn't. and no freakin' way, she's engaged to one of the most famous local artist in Atlanta. He's actually one of my favorite. I also used to draw back in High School, so I'm a bit of an art enthusiast.
Kennedy's work is very colorful and cheerful. Always ambiguous, but I always interpret is as a happy painting. His work is mostly pop art. He started as a graffiti artist, which is still around all over Atlanta.
