The next day we went to a small island, that’s where our project is located. After a couple of days we are almost done with our work. One more day and we’re done. We’ve only been here for 3 days.
Tomorrow is our last day to finish our work then we can have fun for the next couple of days. We are now readying ourselves for bed. We’re still in the same room because there’s still no vacancy.
I was lying on my makeshift bed when Lian spoke. She’s lying in her bed so I can’t see her.
“Tommie? Are you still awake?” she said
“yeap! Why?”
“Oh it’s nothing.”
“oh yeah? Why did you call me Tommie?”
“I can’t call you Tommie anymore?”
“Of course you can. You and my Mom are the only ones who call me Tommie.”
“Really? Not even Trish? Speaking of your Mom how is she?”
“Not even her. She’s doing fine. She married a new husband, Rick.”
“That’s nice!”
“Yeah! And she’s happy with Rick now. You know she really likes you.”
“Oh yeah? That’s nice of her.”
I was quiet. I’m lost of words. I don’t know what to say anymore.
“Can I ask you a question?” she said.
Good thing she spoke because I still want to talk to her. I know I talk to her but it’s always about business. It’s either that or we don’t talk at all. So, it’s nice to talk to her like this.
“You just asked me.”
“Ok let me rephrased it. Can I ask you a personal question?” She said with an emphasis on the word PERSONAL.
“OKAY! Shoot.”
“Uhmm... What happen with you and Trish? Are you still together?”
“Not anymore. We broke up years ago. We only dated for 5 months.”
I dated Trish after me and Lian broke up. I went for her so that Lian wouldn’t know that I was hurt with our break up. In short Trish is my rebound girl.
“Oh I see.”
“Why did you ask?”
“Nothing. Was she worth it?”
“What?”
“Why did you leave me for her?”
“Why are you asking these questions?”
“Why don’t you answer me?”
“Why does it matter?”
“It may not matter to you but to me it does?”
“Why?”
“I’ve always wanted to ask you these questions for so long and now I got the chance and courage to ask you.”
“Okay! Do you really want to know?”
“Yes!”
“Okay! I broke up with you not because we are fighting a lot but because I know you’re leaving. I don’t want to be left behind so I took that chance when you gave me choices. So I said I don’t want to be with you anymore. I was so hurt and felt really stupid after doing that. I love you very much. I know that we’re only Highschool back then but I know how I felt with you. I didn’t want to get back together with you because of my pride. I also didn’t think you would take me back after I hurt you. You once told me that when you broke up with someone or someone broke up with you there’s no more getting back together and that you don’t believe with one more chance or with working things out the second time. So with that I tried to move on and trust me it was hard because I see you walking along the corridors of our school all happy and always smiling. Every time I see you like that I always think that you must be really happy that we broke up and that you’re not affected with our break up. Then I met Trish, I asked her out and went out with her for about 5 months but every time we’re together I can’t help but think that she’s not you and I can’t help but wish she was you. Then there’s this rumor that you and Tyler are dating, I thought its true because I always saw you with him, then again I see you hanging around with my best friends Travis and Kevin too.” Tears are running down my face now.
I know it seems pathetic for a guy to cry but with Lian I’m not embarrassed and scared to cry. She already saw me cry lots of times before. There’s something with her that makes me feel that it’s okay to cry even for a guy like me. Nobody saw me cry except from her. Except those times when I’m still a kid.
“Does that answer your questions?” I said
“Hmmm… Pretty much!” she answered
“Do you have any other questions?”
“No, let’s go to bed!”
“Okay! Good night!”
“Night”
I woke up at 8am the next day. Last day of doing work, then we can have all the fun. I froze in my when I heard Lian talking.
“I already said my sorry what do you want me to do?” “What part of I’m busy didn’t you understand?” “I’m busy doing work, that’s why I’m here in the first place.” “This conversation is pointless.” “I’m hanging up now! Bye!”
I heard a click from her phone and she’s quiet. I tried to make it look like I just woke up and didn’t hear her phone conversation. I yawned loudly so she can hear me and sat up.
“Good Morning!” I said smiling at her.
“Morning! Was I too loud that I woke you up?”
“Huh?” playing dumb.
“Nothing! Let’s just eat breakfast so we can finish our work today.”
“Okay!”
After eating breakfast, we went back to the small island where our project is located. By 12pm we are done and hungry. So we went back to the hotel to eat lunch.
“Want to go for a walk after eating?” I asked her
“sure.”
“great!”
