Percy
Percy's eyes opened to see an empty half of the bed. Although, the bed was empty, his mind was full. Thoughts were racing through his mind like his head was a race track, yet everything around him was moving slowly and foggy, as if he was underwater. When Percy realized what day it was, he knew he had missed swim practice. Looking at the phone he rarely used, it was filled with messages his dyslexic mind could barely read.
His hand touched the metal doorknob twisting it and walking into the bathroom. The cold tiles nipped at the balls of Percy's feet. He twisted the hot water on and stepped in. The steaming water burned his back, but his mind was so far away he didn't feel it. The water mist relaxing his muscles. He washed his hair letting the excess soap trickle it's way down to the floor the water washing it away into the drains. Percy wished his brain could just melt into the pipes and not bug him anymore. He knew that couldn't happen, but everyday he prayed it would. After, dousing himself in lavender body wash he hopped out the shower and let the cool air bite at his bare skin. Quickly running a towel through his hair then wrapping it loosely around his hips he inhaled the chilly air.
Letting the mint taste consume his mouth was a refreshing thing. The toothpaste took away morning breath and brought a fresh start to the day he was already dreading.
With clothes rubbing against his skin, a bag slung over his shoulder, hair that wasn't perfect, and a minty and lavender scent Percy made his way to his pickup truck, and into the crowded streets of New York City.
After a short drive with many alarms, sirens, and red lights Percy made it to his high school. With December passing and the snow coming in late January the frost covered the streets and sent chills up Percy's spine as he hopped out his old pick up truck. Each step Percy took from the schools parking lot brought a crunch from his converse he needs to replace with boots. As he opened the doors to the school Percy made a sigh of relief as the clock on the wall read 7:12 and kids were still roaming the halls. Normally Percy would meet his friends in the corner of the cafeteria. Today he just went to his class early.
Percy listened to an audiobook while he waited for class to start. Spineless the Art of the Jellyfish as he couldn't see the artwork from an audiobook. Percy always carried the book in a hard copy so he could follow along. It also made him look smarter as to others he's a dyslexic kid reading a nonfiction book.
Saved by the bell wasn't an expression Percy would use today when the headache starting alarm rung for lunch, he had to see his best friends who stabbed him in the back. If Annabeth cheated on him once and apologized maybe he wouldn't be so upset and they could work through this together, but Luke and Annabeth had been friends long before Percy moved in middle school. He could tell it hadn't been the first time, and Percy was sure it wouldn't be the last either.
Percy trudged through the over crowded Half-Blood High, making his way to the cafeteria. He saw all his friends laughing and playing around. Leo was throwing french fries at Grover, Grover catching them in his mouth, them all cheering as Tyson sneakily stole fries from Leo's plate. Leo proceeding to throw fries at Tyson to get back at him. Thalia was the first to turn around. "Hey! Percy's here!" Grover got up from his seat and threw his arm around me. Jason seemed to be the only person who seemed to know the situation as he was sporting a nervous face. "Hey!" Percy's voice cracked and everyone laughed. "Looks like Percy's going through puberty again!" Thalia laughed. Leo joined in to, "Have your balls dropped yet?" Percy rolled his eyes, "Yeah it's pretty interesting. Wanna see!'" Percy joked grabbing Leos head and unbuckling his belt. "NOOO!" Leo yelled covering his eyes everyone laughed, and Percy forgot how much he loved being with his friends they helped him so much, they truly were the most important people to him. After 20 minutes of fits and giggles, Luke and Annabeth finally showed up. Fuck.
