I followed the mountainside to be safe for a while and didn't hear anything, but after some time of walking I realized that I literally couldn't hear anything except the sound of my own footsteps. The birds ought to be out and about singing by now, and even the trees and wind were quiet. I considered humming a tune to test if the birds were there, but thought it better not to. Something odd was going on.

Why did this keep happening to me?

I quickly tried to scramble up a tree, but fell down. Tried again and scraped the skin off of the whole top of the inside of my arm while reaching up. I hmphed at the tree and then got a lightbulb. I used air to lift myself up high enough to reach the lowest branch and from then on I could climb. I climbed higher and higher, till I was basically at the top. Looking over the forest to see if I could see anything carefully, I barely breathed. For a few seconds I couldn't see anything. But when I looked closer I saw that the tree's parting, for something big. I could tell because the ground was shaking now as well as whatever it was got closer. It was bad and I had to get out of that tree, because it was coming my way and it wasn't taking its time about it. I acted more on adrenalin than thought and jumped as far as I could. My fingers grabbed at the air till they found a branch in the next tree to grab on to. I hung there helplessly for a second, trying to catch my breath thinking about how insane I was. I tried to pull myself up and failed terribly. I should have worked on my arm strength while I had still had the chance. I didn't think I would ever need to though. The ground was shaking more now, I had to do something. I took an awkward breath in and told myself not to look down. I shuffled toward the trunk, my bag swinging on my back as I moved. Still clinging to the branch I wrapped my legs around the trunk of the tree. Slowly and carefully I moved toward the trunk with first one arm and then the other to hold on it like a kuala. I was losing my grip thats how tired my arms had gotten, but I wouldn't let go. The ground was shaking uncontrollably now, this did not aid my cause at all. The thought that this was a thin tree briefly crossed my mind, as a safety aspect I could have chosen better. I looked down and saw a branch that I could probably reach on the opposite side to which I had come. I streched my leg out and with a sigh of relief, could touch it. I pushed myself away from the tree and grabbed onto the branch as I fell, now on the complete opposite side to where I started. I carefully moved to the edge so that I could make another leap of faith. I was holding on for dear life, then gathered up all my courage. I prepared to jump, sucking air into my lungs and gritting my teeth. I swung off the branch as hard as I could, soaring through the air I prepared to grab on to the first branch that my hands could reach.

Then something wacked me hard. Really hard. I flew down in another direction, my heart was racing in my chest. I was petrified, I heard a high pitch screach and I realised it was my scream that rang in my ears. I curled into a ball during my flight, prepearing to hit the ground, as soon as I hit it I started to roll. I rolled for quite a while and when I eventually stopped I slowly unwound my body, I felt battered, bruised and plain sore. I lay there for a second, just breathing raggedly, trying to get my heart to calm down. I opened my eyes to see a giant cat sitting staring at me as if I were something interesting, or food. Of course in the state I was in this sent me into hysterics and I started to scream, the screaming dissolved into laughter and then tears. It sat there. Still. Staring at me.

"My word, what an odd creature you are." It purred.

I gaped at it. "Excuse me?"

"I am positive that you heard me very well."

"You can speak." I whispered. "You're like a giant." Then I started to wander why a perfectly intelligent creature hit me out of the air, so doing the sensible thing... I asked. I mean if he can answer why not get an answer?

"You can not blame me." It snorted. "You were the one that looked like a bird."

I stared at it with pure shock fixed onto every feature of my face. I wanted to say something, but instead I sat there with my mouth hanging open like a fly trap.
