My Hero?

I woke up back in my bed at Harrison's place. My head was fuzzy and felt like it had been stuffed with cotton buds. I tried to sit up, but dizziness washed over me causing me to fall back down onto my back. I groaned loudly, sounding more like a moose than anything else. I wandered why I felt like that. I sat up; slowly and carefully this time and went to the bathroom, hoping a shower would help this feeling go away. When I stood up a sharp pain shot through my leg, I realised it still hadn't healed, so I tried to keep pressure off of it as I hobbled around. I showered in a warm, soothing shower and felt a tiny bit better as I got dressed into some clean clothes, doing everything slowly and holding onto something in my vicinity for some support. How could I be so light headed? Could fae even get sick? I slowly made my way to the door to go upstairs and get something to eat thinking that it could very possibly help - to get some sugar or energy into my body. But before I could get there someone knocked on the door. I told them they could come in because I was not half dressed or something of the sort. The door opened... hesitantly?

Alex walked in.

Wait. What? Alex? Confusion flooded over me and this was followed by the memories of what had happened in the past few days... the kidnapping and how they saved me. Relief came after the memories. I was safe. They saved me.

We stood staring at each other for several moments. Neither of us knowing what to say or do. It wasn't exactly awkward, but it wasn't what I would describe as the most comfortable moments; adding the fact that I still didn't feel so well and was completely off balance. I like to think I hid it well though.

"Hi." He eventually said. Looking everywhere but at me, except every now and then when he would steal a quick glance in my direction. I had never seen Alex looking nervous or shy. This was definitely a first.

"Thank you for saving me." I croaked out. My voice sounding quiet and like I had taken a grater to my voice box.

"Uh, no problem." He said awkwardly.

"How did you find me?" I had honestly wandered because that couldn't have been exactly easy. This world was huge.

"That's actually quite and interesting, long story." He smiled a little as he thought of it.

"I have time." I pushed the subject, my curiosity burning as I exited the bathroom, went back to my room and walked over to sit on my bed.

"Well... After you left and I eventually heard about it. I said to Puck that I wanted to go find you, to help him. Well to go with him, because he was already leaving when I found out and I refused not to help look for you. He fought with me about it at first, but I went with anyway and we ended up helping each other a lot more than I think either of us expected. Puck actually ended up being grateful for my presence, because I could order the portal to transport us to the same place that you had gone. We had taken about three and a half weeks to find the right portal though. Do you know how many portals there are?" He sighed shaking his head at the thought, or at the stress. That must have been terrible for them. They could have ended up in some foreign land and I would never have known. They might not have even known they were in the wrong place if they had, and would have just searched forever.

"And how did you find me when I was kidnapped? Or find where I was?" Images of the dark room. The small boot I was stuck in, driving in the car to the destination. They flashed though my mind and I shook my head to get them away, only causing myself more dizziness.

"Well for a few days we stayed out of your way, we weren't actually sure what we were going to do. We got to know this realm for ourselves in that time." He continued. "When you were kidnapped we all just happened to be out. We were always in close proximity of you, so that we could keep and eye on you. But we lost you when you left the park. By the time we got back to the store you were gone. Luckily it was still soon, so Hunter picked up your scent and we managed to follow it. But we lost that on the way as well. So it took us a few days to follow it, bit by bit where we could and to top it all off the place is far away."

"Wow." I breathed out. "Thank you so much for everything you guys have done for me."

"What did they do to you there?" He asked cautiously. "We didn't fix your leg, because we don't know what the internal damage is like. If we fixed it wrong then you could end up with something worse and not healed. And we can't take you to a hospital for obvious reasons."

"Its okay. They didn't do anything really." I paused. "The ogre hurt me when he tried to kidnap me because I fought him. He snapped my leg like it was a twig by jumping on it. They didn't give me food and only some water. Like once or twice. I think they wanted me to starve. They took my blood a little bit more each day. He said that he couldn't fit it all in his body immidiately and he wanted my body to replenish so that he could have more. I think you guys came at the perfect time, I think he was going to take whatever was left that day."

"Did he say who he was or who he was working for?"

"No... no he didn't actually. He kept on saying he must get it all before someone else does. I asked what he would do with it, he said that he was going to put it in his own blood and use the powers for himself. Become one of the most powerful fae." I replied.

"I didn't recognise him." He said thoughtfully. "I think he was just some random fae."

"Yeah..." I didn't feel fully convinced though. We sat in silence for a few moments, both stuck in our own thoughts. Puck walked in during our silence; breaking it with no words, but with his footsteps. He was carrying a tray with breakfast and orange juice balancing on top. He indicated for me to sit with my back against the wall with his head (I understood what he meant, but wasn't sure someone else would) and then he placed the tray on my lap gently. "Thank you." I said and started to eat.

"I found some things out about your attacker." Puck announced. "His real name is Garunnock. He is a winter dwarf. He was working alone, obviously he had his two goons, but he wasn't working under anybody."

"Wow." I breathed out. "Why didn't anybody ever tell me about all this? And my blood?"

They shared a look. "We thought that not knowing would protect you." Puck said.

"How so?" I asked feeling flabbergasted at their thinking. "I now came here to the mortal realm and risked the lives of everybody around me, because I wasn't careful. Because I didn't know."

"That's a good point." Puck said quietly and thoughtfully. "I'm really sorry, Katie." He said it sincerely and I believed him.

"It's alright." I sighed, resting my head back and closing my eyes. "It's all over now."

"Well... to change the topic. You should be ready to come home in a few days." Puck said. My eyes flew open to glare at his serious face. "It's not safe for you here." He said plainly answering the accusation behind my glare.

"That is a desicion for me to make." I said, my tone leaving no room for argument. I rested my head back against the wall and somehow fell asleep, the mostly untouched food still on my lap.
