"Well, well, look who decided to show up to work," Beatriz snickered.
Amans rolled his eyes and continued to fill out the paperwork in front of him.
"Yeah what happened?" Oscar chimed in, "Mommy forget to give you a ride today?"
Both of them started to laugh, but Amans paid them no mind.
He was focused on trying to catch up on the traffic reports that were spread out across his desk. It seemed like every time he got close to finishing them, another stack was thrust upon him. He tried not to let it get the best of him, but it was starting to get under his skin.
He was a writer, a talented one at that. He just needed to be given a real shot at a story and not just filling out traffic reports.
If that were the case, he never would have accepted his job in the first place.
Amans was hired by Helen Countlas, the former manager of Daily Dosage and she was very fond of him. When her mother passed away, she fell into a deep depression and took a leave of absence, only to never come back. They later found out that she had moved back to Pennsylvania, where she grew up as a child, to be around her family in their time of need.
Although Amans was sorry for her loss and respected her decision to move back, she left him in quite a jam.
Rick was next in line for manager and seized her title as quickly as she left. His first order of business, demoting Amans from his former position to where he was currently.
Amans wanted to reach out to Helen and inform her about what had happened but felt it was inappropriate due to the tragedy she and her family were going through.
Determined, Amans sucked it up and figured he would stay at Daily Dosage until the time came that he could prove himself and be recognized as the amazing writer that he was.
But that day still hadn't come, and his patience was beginning to run thin.
He just needed a chance to showcase his talent, and today he was going to ask for one.
"Awww look, Oscar," Beatriz added, "he's ignoring us."
Nearly forgetting that they were there, Amans decided to respond.
He sat up and looked at Beatriz, "Could you please just go?" He asked.
They were beginning to work his nerves. He already had enough work to do as it was and their snide comments were only adding fuel to the fire.
Beatriz had a tight smirk plastered on her face as she glared at him from in front of his desk.
Through the crack in her smirk, Amans could see that some lipstick was stuck on her tooth. Rather than let her know it was there, he figured it added character to her already wonderful personality.
She was a short woman, about 5'3", give or take an inch. She had olive skin and piercing brown eyes. She always wore her hair pulled off of her face, whether it be a slick bun or ponytail. Her attire, business casual.
His guess was in her mind if she dressed the part it would help compensate for her mediocre writing skills. Despite the lipstick that currently occupied her left tooth, Beatriz had a reasonably decent smile. If not for her smug attitude and lack of respect for others, she could actually be considered a pretty girl.
Oscar scoffed, causing Amans to shift his gaze from Beatriz to him. There wasn't much to Oscar, both mentally and physically. Although, when conversing with him, he could fool you into thinking he put a lot of time into his body.
