"...hello," Kaya grumbled.

"Hey, Kay!" Amara responded, she paused from dicing onions, "wait, were you sleeping?" She asked, setting the knife down.

Kaya coughed on the other side of the phone.

"Huh?" she groaned.

Amara rolled her eyes and resumed chopping.

"Kay its six in the afternoon, why are you asleep?"

"Oh I'm sorry mother, I didn't know it was forbidden for adults to take naps," Kaya responded sarcastically.

Amara snickered, she placed her phone on the counter, putting Kaya on speaker.

Kaya buried her head in her pillow, "What are you doing anyway?" She asked, her voice muffled.

"What was that?" Amara asked.

"I said..."

"Know what, I am not continuing this conversation any further until you get up,"

Amara went over to the steaming pot on the stove and turned down the flame, "geez why are you so tired anyway?"

Her patience was running thin, she couldn't wait to tell Kaya the great news, and there she was half asleep.

Kaya shuffled on the other end of the phone, straining to sit up.

She took a long yawn and sighed.

"Ok...I'm up."

Amara smiled.

She poured the diced onions into a pan with mushrooms and stirred them together.

"Sooo I've got something to tell you," Amara sang.

"And I'm dying to hear it," Kaya sang back.

"Well," Amara thought it over, "it's slightly good and kind of bad, well not really bad it's just--"

"Amara," Kaya interrupted.

Amara stopped talking.

"Get to the point."

Amara took a breath, "Ok, well for starters I'm going to the masquerade ball..."

Before Amara could finish, Kaya started squealing, "YAAAY!!! We are going to have SOOO much fun, now I have to plan our outfits, and we have to go shopping for makeup! Oh, Amara, I knew you would come to your senses! How is that slightly bad news, this is great!"

Amara cleared her throat, "Well if you would let me finish I could tell you."

Kaya covered her mouth, "Sorry," she mumbled, "continue."

"Well, it turns out I'll be there on business too,"

"Awwww..." Kaya moaned, she sucked her teeth.

"Geez Kay stop responding prematurely and let me finish!" Amara exclaimed.

She poured the pan of sauteed onions and mushrooms into the pot filled with pasta, added in two jars of alfredo sauce and stirred it together.

Amara went on, "Dreardon and I have been chosen to model Magdalena Coutier's new fashion line."

Kaya had to bite the inside of her cheeks to keep from screaming with excitement, but she wanted to let Amara finish.

"We'll arrive early at the ball to talk with her beforehand, and then we can do as we please for the remainder of the event, which means..."

"You can enjoy the ball with meeeee!" Kaya squealed into the phone.
