London.

I was finally here. The plane landed and they ushered us off, shepherding us towards baggage claim. By the time I got to the luggage carousel I could see my blue suitcase spinning around on it. I hurried over and grabbed it. I wheeled it over to the exit and stepped foot out onto London ground. I took a deep breath, letting the air of the city fill my lungs. As I stood under the shelter of the canopy above me, I pulled my scarf out of my bag and put it on. I knew I would be needing it. Too bad I didn’t pack an umbrella. I stepped out towards the street and hailed a taxi. The cab driver pulled over and took my suitcase and put it in the trunk. We both got into the cab and I told the driver the address of my new apartment and he took off. The city sped by in blurs but I didn’t mind. I would have plenty of time to see the city. The cab stopped at a building and the driver got out, going to get my suitcase. I stepped out of the cab and thanked the driver, paying the fare. I grabbed my suitcase and started to walk towards my new home.

I took out my key and unlocked the door. I stepped into my apartment for the first time. It was even better than the pictures. Sure it was small but I didn’t need much. It had a kitchen dining area, which was already complete with appliances, a bookshelf the length of my wall, a decent sized living room, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms.

I was simply exhausted but I smelled like airplane so a shower was in order. I took some stuff out of my suitcase and went to the bathroom. I turned on the shower, letting the water warm up as I pealed the smelly and dirty clothes off of my body. I stepped into my shower and let the water warm my body as it washed away all the dirt and grime of the day. I washed my hair and conditioned it, making it silky smooth. I washed my face and body cleaning out my pores, ridding my body of oil and dirt. I turned the shower off and wrapped my body up in a fluffy towel, wrapping my hair up in one as well.

I went over to my suitcase, which was sitting in the middle of my living room floor, and picked out my clothes. I threw on an old pair of basketball shorts, which had once belonged to my brother, and an old ratty sweatshirt. I took my pillow, which had been in my backpack, and a blanket that was stored in my suitcase and made a little bed on the living room floor. I didn’t have any furniture yet so this would have to do. Hopefully that would arrive soon. I don’t really want to sleep on the floor much longer.

I still can’t believe I’m actually here. It’s so surreal. This is actually happening to me. All my life I have wanted to live in London and now I actually am. I let the events of the day fill my head as I tried to doze off. Eventually my eyelids became too heavy and drooped over my eyes as I fell asleep, wore out from the rough day I had.

The next morning I was awoken by sunlight streaming in through the large window in the living room. I groaned and stood up. I stretched and felt my body groan and crack in protest. The floor was as comfy as it looked but it could’ve been worse. I went over to my suitcase and picked out my outfit for the day. My favorite pair of jeans, a white v-neck, my leather jacket, and my red pair of Toms. I got dressed and went over to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth, put in my contacts, and applied a little bit of makeup. My hair was going to be a challenge today. My long blond hair was tangled and the waves were crinkled in weird places. I ran a brush through it and deciding that it looked sort of presentable, I just put on my gray beanie with the furry ball on top. I took one last look in the mirror and decided I was ready for the world. I grabbed my bag and stepped out of my apartment. I went down to the main lobby area and spoke to a man at the front desk.

“Hello. I just moved in here and I’m expecting some furniture today. If I’m not here, just let them up to my apartment.”

“Certainly Miss,” the man behind the desk said with a kind smile. “Have a nice day.”
