sorry, it's been a while but this is the same morning as the last chapter but at Gilbert's house ;)
The stairs creaked eerily with the weight of a person.
It was Bash.
"You sure are up early," he remarked unable to keep the amusement out of his voice "any particular reason or perhaps maybe even... a person?"
"What are you implying?!" Gilbert said with no real menace in his voice because it was quite impossible to be mad when you were thinking of the person that gave you butterflies and smile uncontrollably. It was also impossible to feign menace when your cheeks were bright pink, and of course, Bash picked up on both of these things immediately.
"I'm guessing you're nervous about more than just going to school, am I wrong?"
"I don't know to what you are referring to."
Bash chuckled at Gilbert's foolishness. He couldn't understand why he wouldn't just say so, it was very clear this boy had strong feelings for the young girl. You really couldn't miss it unless you were completely oblivious.
"Just sit and eat, maybe then you'll stop questioning me and I can actually get to school on time," Gilbert said, smirking and placing down two plates with breakfast for them.
Secretly, or apparently not so secretly, he was looking forward to this day immensely. He was hoping he wasn't always this obvious, if he was, surely the entire school should know how infatuated he is with Anne. (he is and everyone does lmao) Gilbert sadly hadn't spoken to her since the last day of school when he wished her a good summer and suggest they see each other during the break and she scowled at him. However, when she thought he couldn't see her, her lips curved ever so slightly into the smallest smile. He, of course, had seen her around town but only from afar and god forbid he went up and spoke to her.
Besides, she never noticed him when he saw her.
Nevertheless, he was very excited to speak to her once again and continue his studies. That's why he enjoyed school because he could soon be a doctor not because some adorable, intelligent, kind-hearted, perfect girl would be there to brighten his entire life. That would be ridiculous.
"Blythe! have you heard a word I just said?"
"Um...yes?"
"I said it is nearly time for school! Stop thinking about that girl with that stupid look on your face and go see her!" he stood abruptly and whisked away their plates.
"Ye-yeah sure ok" If bash didn't know how he felt before he most certainly did now.
After spending a few too many moments fixing his hair in the mirror he sprinted out the door, shouting a rushed goodbye to Bash. To his great shock and relief, however, he was very early. Bash must have lied and told him he was late to get him here sooner, knowing all too well that he would be too frazzled and excited to even glance at a clock. So, to kill time he paced anxiously waiting for Anne to arrive. Just when he was beginning to get worried he heard the cheerful giggles of two girls, Anne and her bosom friend Diana. Quickly he smoothed his shirt with his hands, forcefully trying to eliminate some of its wrinkles and began to approach her voice.
He rounded the corner of the building and was greeted with a scene very different than the one he was expecting. You could cut the tension with a knife and he was extremely confused how the giggles turned to shouts so quickly. Anne's face was beet red and across from her stood the one and only; Billy Andrews with a sneer plastered on his face. Diana stood off to the side looking hopelessly at the situation placed in front of her. He decided then, that he needed to help.
