Diana and Anne. Kindred spirits as Anne likes to call them, the perfect companion that always understands you, a person that you can spill all your secrets to without fear of judgement, they connect with you in ways other simply can't. For Anne, Diana was the most kindred of all the spirits with the exception of maybe Matthew. They were inseparable on all accounts and this early morning was no exception. They chattered on the walk to the quaint schoolhouse and luckily Gilbert hadn't become a topic of conversation nor did they bump into him. Anne, of course, was relieved beyond measure as you can imagine especially because Diana had a way of teasing her just so. Enough to make her cheeks flush to the colour of her flaming hair and making her stutter beyond comprehension. She insisted it was out of rage towards her stubbornly sarcastic rival, but Diana always suspected otherwise.

They discussed everything they possibly could in the short amount of time they were together, knowing it would be impossible to speak to each other when classes started. It was like they never left each other, that's how it was when you had that special connection with someone, it was like no time ever passed. However, it was inevitable that they would soon arrive at the school and of course, Billy was outside lurking, probably waiting for the exact moment they arrived.

"Hey Diana, why are you walking with that mangy old mutt? I mean, I've heard of charity but this is just sad.."

Anne whipped her head around and glared at Billy, her face warming and her blood boiling.

"It's not worth it Anne, He's a jerk!" Diana pleaded, but Anne couldn't hear her. she slowly walked toward Billy but he wasn't backing down.

"What could you possibly do you're just a little orphan? You're small and scrawny and weak" he spat.

It happened in the blink of an eye.

Anne lunged towards Billy, she didn't have any idea what took over her but she had the sudden urge to punch him and being the fiery redhead she is, she didn't fight it.

She saw Billy put his fists up but it was too late.

Before anything happened she felt a hand gently push her away and Anne tripped and hit her head on a rock.

A muffled thump echoed above her.

She saw Billy fall in her peripheral vision.

"Ow.." Anne mumbles.

"Anne! are you all right?" it's Diana, she runs over to her, inspecting to assure there's nothing broken or bruised. Luckily no blood was drawn and besides a stubborn ache in the back of her head and blurry vision, she felt quite all right.

Anne tries to look around but nothing wants to come into focus, she squints her eyes and stares, not at Diana but the figure just past her. Whomever this mystery person is was standing above her, casting a shadow over her face. A sneaking suspicion tells her she knows exactly who it is. She looks up and her eyes finally slide into focus just as he offers her his hand.
