Camila's POV

I wanna clear something up! The time I guess this is in, I'm going to say this is 2019. Because Shawn is going on tour around this time, might not make sense now, but it plays into the story. He's also 20 and Camila is 19 turning 20 soon!

"Are you sure about this? I don't want to go in." I said looking over at my boyfriend, Finn. We stood outside of some fancy Italian restaurant, I was meeting his family.

"It's fine, Cami. My parents are going to love you" He reassured me "I don't know about that. Don't they want you to be dating someone who's major is law or in the medical field?" I asked

I wasn't any of those things I was doing a major in photography and I'm doing a minor in art. "It's fine, just come on" he said grabbing my hand and walking into the restaurant.

Finn greeted his parents and his younger sister, I stood next to him awkwardly. "This is my girlfriend, Camila" he introduced me "it's nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan" I said.

They didn't say anything, they just looked at me up and down. I sat down next to his sister, while Finn sat in front of me. "I'm Jess" the young girl said to me "Camila" I answered she gave me a smile unlike her parents.

We ordered our food and soon everyone was deep in conversation. I sat awkwardly at the side nobody spoke to me, only Jess occasionally. "So Camila" Finn's mother started "Yes?" I answered looking at her.

"What are you doing in college?" She asked me "oh, I'm doing a major in photography" I answered playing with my hands. "Oh" is all she said "she's an amazing photographer" Finn added quickly.

"Thank you" I replied quietly "what do you plan on doing with that degree?" She continued to ask me questions "I wanted to open my own photography studio" I answered. I wasn't too sure anymore.

"What do your parents do for a living?" She asked "mom, this isn't twenty questions" Jess tells her rolling her eyes. "Jessica, I'm just trying to get to know your brother's girlfriend" she tells her daughter.

"It's fine" I replied "my parents actually own the old Havana bakery in New York" I answered. "Never heard of it" she said "oh" I said shutting my mouth, I was done with this conversation.

I started dragging my fork around my plate of food, I was blocking everything out. I listened to the music in the background recognizing the familiar voice.

Shawn, I could never escape him. No matter how hard I tried, he was always in the back of my mind. He was becoming more and more famous, he even released his third album. I was proud of him, I wish I could tell him though.

I wonder what he was doing? Probably not at a boring dinner meeting his girlfriend's parents. Did he have a girlfriend?

"Oh they're playing Shawn Mendes!" Jess squealed as her parents shushed her "I don't understand why you like him so much, he's not that good of a singer." Finn say to his sister "you're just jealous that he's talented and good looking!"

"He could probably steal your girlfriend away from you" Jess added I couldn't help, but laugh. "Do you like Shawn Mendes?" She asked me I just nodded my head "see he's already one step ahead of you!"

"It was nice meeting you Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan" I say once it was time to leave "I wish I could say the same" Finn's mother told me, my eyes widen as I looked away from her. "Finn, I need to talk to you. You can wait in the car" she says to me grabbing her sons arms then handing me his car keys.
